This was a great YA romance/real life book. This is the first where teen issues get really intense but the author deals with them well and handles the full gambit of emotions with them, at least for the main character. It’s certainly for a bit more mature audience (not middle grade). I know a lot of kids read up 2-3 years but I would put this appropriate for 15-18+. The situations in the book feel quite realistic and Cassandra’s character is even further developed. You could read this book without reading others in the series but it goes quite well to read them in order.
Without giving spoilers but to help parents and kids worried about content, there is passion and some lines are crossed, sex is mentioned but it’s other characters fully participating off screen, eating disorders are mentioned and shown quite a bit in some parts, there are a couple of biblical swears and one or two stronger uses of language, drugs and alcohol are mentioned (other characters mention participating).
