I’ve read a few of Natalie Deckers books and I was excited when this crossed my path. The story is wrapped around a group of teens in high school who all have different aspirations.
Keilah has a crush but he doesn’t know she exists. After creating a dating app she thinks she’ll be able to hook her high school Prince. Unfortunately he’s matched with her bestie and that’s only the start of her problems. Keilah doesn’t want to trust Ryder but he might hold the key to digging her out of this mess.
This is a fun story with some drama. I found it entertaining to see Keilah story unfold. Sometimes the person you think you want isn’t the one that’s right for you. 4 stars out of 5.
I’ve joined the blog tour. I received an ARC however all my thoughts and opinions are my own. This isn’t my first Natalie Decker book and it won’t be my last.
I adored this book! And it started out with the very first paragraph on the very first page!
"From the time we can understand basic things such as words and master simple motor functions, we're told how brilliant, pretty, and special we are. For some people this is true."
So often I think of how my parents told me all these things, as well as other family members, teachers, etc. Yet, I am one of the people that it is not true. Or at least that is the way I feel a lot of the time. And so connecting with Keilah happened right off the bat for me. Her unrequited crush on a guy that didn’t even know her. Yeah, been there, done that, still do it sometimes! Her not being able to say anything that sounded intelligent or carry on a normal conversation when he was around? Yeah, that’s still me too. The best friend who became popular and started hanging around with that crowd, but still keeps her around as her best friend? That was sorta me. Only my best friend at the time and I parted ways as high school went along. Probably partly because my best friend dropped out of school and I gravitated more towards the nerdy people I ended up with for the rest of the time.
I liked the idea of the dating app being a way she could meet someone. Although I don’t get why everyone kept saying she did ship with someone when she never saw it? That was weird. But I like the love interest she ended up with. How he didn’t give up on her. How he kept being there for her and trying to make it up to her. Mostly. There is one thing I think maybe he didn’t really ever explain? But hey, they’re teenagers, right?
I sped through this book in like a day. I could barely put it down even though I had to go to sleep the night I was reading it, so had to wait to finish the last 20 pages the next day. My only reasoning for dropping it to a 4.5 stars from a 5 since I loved it so much is that there were several grammatical errors that were repeated, and since this came out back in November, I’m surprised those hadn’t been fixed in the copy I got. A really good story, and I liked how Keilah dealt with the guy her best friend got shipped with. I feel like that is more realistic for how someone would behave. Even a teenager again. I hope to read more by this author in the future!
I am sorry, but I werent as impressed by this as many other people seems to be.
I felt the characters were very "hard" and some of the actions they did, had no explanation.
The story could have been great, but we never really heard any details regarding the app, dating, coding or any of the other stuff, so for me it was missing a lot.
Dateable is a young adult contemporary romance by Natalie Decker. Dateable is a fun, quick and sweet read that I think would be great for YA readers of all ages that are looking for fluffy fun friends dating story. I enjoyed this book, but I found myself wishing that it were a little bit longer so I could get some more depth and detail with the characters and especially with the coding hobby of our main character. But if you are looking for a cute read that you can easily finish in a few hours, dateable might be the perfect book for you to pick up.
In Dateable, we meet our main character Keilah and her best friends Rdyer and Whitney. The way Keilah looks on the cover was giving me total Kailah from MTV's the Challenge vibes! (let me know if you agree!) but looks and name are where the similarities end, because out dateable Keilah is a super nerd. She loves reading and coding and I loved her. I was so excited to see that coding and creating an app was going to play such a big part of this book, that I was a little disappointed that we didn't get to see more of the actual coding and behind the scenes of the app going on. But putting that aside, Dateable has a classic young adult storyline that is always a hit for me. Girl likes popular boy. Girl enlists her friends to get popular boy to notice her. Along the way, girl discovers she actually likes someone else. If that is a storyline you enjoy, then you will like Dateable.
This book was a lot of fun. I liked our main trio of characters, the romance was sweet, and the story hit the spot. It was shorter than I expected, coming in at under 200 pages. So there is not a lot of room for a deep dive into the details of the app, but it was an easy and lighthearted read that I finished in under 2 hours. Great if you are looking to devour a book in one night. Dateable was a sweet quick read that I enjoyed.
I love a great story about two young people who are not on the same page. Keilah is a geeky teen, that has a crush. Ryder is the self confident, ex best bud. Whitney is the best friend. Gage is the crush. Keilah makes an app to be Dateable. It doesn't go the way she planned. The story that ensues is riveting. I could not put it down. From a Fan... Pam James.
This book was such a cute little read that had me fawning over Keilah and Ryder for a couple of hours. I always enjoy little novels like this one because they’re so easy and fun to read, without making you think intensively. When I’ve had a long day in the office (even though I’m working from home at the moment), books like Dateable are the perfect little reads to avoid falling into a book hangover.
The story follows Keilah (love the name, btw) who just cannot talk to the boy she fancies. I think any teenage girl can pretty much relate to that – I know at that age I certainly couldn’t speak to boys I even remotely fancied! Keilah is shy, funny and intelligent – a sweet character and a protagonist I didn’t mind following through the story. So, to remedy the fact she can’t speak to this boy, she creates a sort-of dating app in the hopes it will pair her with him. Of course this causes a lot of drama because let’s face it, dating apps and teenagers are never the best match. The plot was pretty sweet and simple, keeping as pretty easy flowing as it possibly could. As the book was only one-hundred and eighty pages, there wasn’t too much depth that could be added to the story. However I liked this, as no part of the story felt unnecessary or dragging the reading down. Everything seemed to fit together perfectly.
When I originally saw the cover for this book, I was impressed by the idea that the lead character isn’t your typical all-American girl. There isn’t a big light shone on girls who code, as the whole hobby is often pinned as something that only boys are really interested in. So I was excited to see how this was portrayed with Keilah’s personality, and I was definitely not disappointed. Though the romance of the story was a little predictable (as these small novels often tend to be), I was still super happy with the outcome of the story.
If you’re looking for a little read, then I’d definitely recommend Dateable. As the story was on the smaller side and I was able to guess the plot pretty easily, I feel comfortable giving this book four out of five. It’s the perfect story if you have some time to kill after a long day or a little journey coming up! I’m excited to see what the author gives us next!
Dateable is a sweet friends-to-enemies-to-lovers YA novel. Keilah and Ryder are a cute couple, and their nerdy geekiness helps to make them relatable. I liked that Keilah was a coder and on the robotics team--it's a fun detail.
This story is a bit on the short side--just 180 pages--and as such tends to skate the surface of a lot of aspects of the story. The details of why the antagonist is out for revenge, for example, isn't fully explained, and how exactly all of that coding and fixing of the coding happens? Totally glossed over. The MCs do a pretty quick switch from "let's go on a first date" to "I love you" (somewhat justified because of how long they've known each other, but it's still a bit of a stretch) that will probably satisfy readers on the younger side of the YA spectrum but probably not those who are a bit more mature. As adult reader it's clear I'm not the target audience, but it was a cute read that teens and tweens not quite ready for "older" YA stories should enjoy.
Rating: 3 1/2 stars / C+
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I adore high school romances, so I was excited to read Natalie Decker's Dateable.
It follows Keilah as she crushes on a boy, and faces consequences for an app she created. And in the end, she discovers the boy she crushes on isn't the right one for her. I always enjoy a good storyline like this, so it definitely kept my interest.
If you enjoy friends to lovers stories, you will enjoy this one. And if you love a good ex best friends to lovers story, this one is right up your alley.
The writing is good and I like that the main character is a nerd. The storyline is good, full of an enemies to lovers, second chance theme. The teens are well written, with a range of personalities throughout.
Overall, Dateable is a cute young adult read. Natalie Decker will leave you delighted if you're in the mood for an easy read, full of fun and emotions. With this being my first time reading this author, I will definitely be looking into more of her books.
Sweet high school read. I really liked the fact the characters all were "nerdy" not hot mock and nerdy girl. All could codes hack and did robotics etc. Its sorta like a second chance at love, after misunderstanding \miscommuncation ended a friendship years ago. Love the true friendships within this story and how they all step in to help Keilah when she needed it, and Ryder was actually pretty sweet. Would have loved an epilogue but that's cos I'm a sucker and loves to know how things work out in the future.
Dateable by Natalie Decker is a cute YA romance about a a self-proclaimed nerd, Keilah, who thinks she’s undateable and who creates a dating app that she hopes will let her talk to her long-time crush since she’s unable to do it face-to-face. What actually happens though is that the situation gets drastically out of control and the consequences for Keilah could be life-changing.
The story is told at a breath-taking pace, which is unfortunate because some details and explanations get lost in the process. Also, it could have used a good proofing/editing.
That said, I think Dateable would very much appeal to younger readers on the YA reader spectrum who would enjoy how a bunch of code-crunching nerds can save the day as well as Keilah’s relationship drama from her interactions with boys to the dysfunctional home life she experiences. It’s a cute read, relatively low on angst.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The STEAM involved (It would go perfect on my STEAM booklist). I loved how the main character was a coder and launching an app. The tenson, I could feel it from the beginning of the book and it continued to go strong through the whole book. The app, I loved the dating app, I loved how it brought the whole school together (not always in a good way) The way it also combined the romance and the mystery. I was in suspense the whole book I loved the ending! What I did not like:
It felt like the main character’s family did not support her at all, her sister was a little bratty and I felt like she was spoiled where in contrast Keilah worked for what she wanted.
I received a review copy from YA Bound Book Tours.
This book was amazing the tone throughout kept me interested all through and I love the realism of their romance. I love how it doesn’t follow certain stereotypes often associated with this genre and it’s another home run in my belief for Natalie Decker.
I have read other books by this author and really enjoyed them. The blurb for this book caught my eye, the storyline has great potential. Unfortunately the writing was subpar. Sounds like it was written by a high-school kid.

I have read a few other books by this author that I really loved so I was excited to read this one but unfortunately it fell a bit short. I felt like the characters were quite flat and I didn’t understand their motivations. The whole blackmail storyline was so obvious and I was just a bit disappointed. I usually really like read YA but this one just didn’t resonate with me.
This was a stupid book. So many grammar errors that it bothered me as it was not properly edited. I did not understand or connect with the main character. Also cannot remember her name even through I just finished the book. I'm happy that it was short so that I could finish it within a day.
A very good high school book that has all the troubles of the geeks and popular kids. They come together to help one of the geeks that came up with a dating app and a whole lot of trouble. A very fun book to read. I so enjoyed this one.
I really didn't care for Kaylas parents, they were horrible! I didn't like how the book seemed to center around needing a date to feel validated and worth anything as a person. It shouldn't be that way.
Så er min anmeldelse af bogen her, endelig til at finde inde på bloggen! - Følg linket her, så finder man den fulde udgave. 📚☺️👉🏼 https://benedictesbogblog.blogspot.co...
