Texas, 1870s. It's a miracle Lily Ussher's survived. Orphaned, stolen by the Comanches, ransomed to a shiftless rogue, abandoned at a circus, and she’s only ten. Or twelve. Nobody’s sure. All Lily wants is to find her brother, Eli, who vowed he’d come for her. All she longs for is stability and a family. When the preacher of the Wellerite religious community in the Texas Hill Country offers her a home and promises to find Eli, Lily prays her fortunes have turned. The plain-living Wellerites take Lily into their fold and she’s placed with a childless couple who treat her like their own. Lily has almost everything she wished for – family, friends, a sense of belonging. Eli still hasn’t showed, but the preacher’s looking for him, isn’t he? But Lily’s peace is shattered when a threat comes from within the community and she’s forced to steal away with her family, abandoning the flourishing settlement. They’ve left everything behind to cross the rugged terrain of Texas to start over. Only, this time, Lily carries a debt to a man with an unholy obsession. A man who will stop at nothing to get her back.

A good story, the hardships of being young and alone.
Lily Ussher, has loss her family, taken by the Indians at age 4. Then later sold to a man that though he could sell her back to her family. Only to Learn that she is not the child he thought she was. Leaving her with a circus. Only to end up with a preacher. That will do anything to have her as his young wife.
Touching story of a young girl stolen by Commanches.
Lily lost her family to the Indians but was raised by them until ransomed. Next came a short circus carrier and finally adoption by a good Christian couple. That wasn't the End of her problems. Great tale!
Really good book. Loved it until I no longer did due to it being a cliffhanger. Have to read several books to get any resolution. So here's to saving someone a big headache.
Lily's story, from living with the Comanches, to living with a circus, to joining a religious group, finally moving to a farm with her adopted parents. And still searching for her long lost brother Eli.
Get ready for the intensity, great story-line and dropping a couple tears. Both my husband and I have read this book and know it to be wonderful. The writing is excellent as it continues the lives of the Ussher family, Lily in a religious community, and her adoptive parents. I could hardly breathe in parts of the book and highly recommend this series. Thanks to the author for a terrific read!
