First Words: Weather: Sunny or Cloudy teaches children about weather such as sunny, cloudy, stormy and rainy.
It's very simple book showing clear illustrations to show how each weather feels like.

This book looks cute with an orange fox character who's there showing how it feels like during the cold and sunny day. It's perfect for introducing these topic.

To make teaching more fun, parents could ask questions to their kids based on the weather todat. For example, parents can ask how's the weaher today? Is it hot or cold? What activities can they do depending on the weather?

I think kids will enjoy this book.

SUNNY OR CLOUDY? is a cute and simple board book to introduce weather words for infants and young toddlers. The book illustrates each word about the weather, with one word on each page. The book features cut-outs of weather-related items throughout the book, such as a cloud shape and hail shapes, adding some touch-and-feel characteristics to the board book.

What I loved: This is a simple way to introduce weather words to infants and young toddlers. The cut-outs are a really nice touch to add some interest, with a cloud cut-out that fits in through the die-cut page, adding both the peek-through elements and touch-and-feel elements with the raised piece. The book uses simple illustrations and bright colors to help convey each word, and toddlers will quickly learn the book, "reading" it independently by naming the weather term on each page. This is a great choice for solo exploration, as it will be quickly learned and enjoyed.

What left me wanting more: The cut-outs can get a bit stuck, as they are perfectly and tightly cut around the object. A little space between the edges would have helped for little fingers to separate the pages more easily. The edges around the cloud cut-out were a bit sharp, but they did not seem to lead to any damage to anyone, but it would be nice if they had been softened, rather than having the points where the cloud lumps come in. Additionally, and this may have been just our copy, the glue was not perfect on some pages, so we did have to reattach some cut-outs.

Final verdict: A fun board book to teach simple weather words, SUNNY OR CLOUDY? combines cut-outs with bright colors to help with early instruction. Recommend for infants and young toddlers.

Please note that I received a review copy. All opinions are my own.

Part of a series (First Words), this book is nicely sized for little hands and printed on sturdy board pages.

The illustrations are cute, with a friendly orange fox chasing its hat, shivering in the cold, enjoying puddles in the drizzle. The weather concepts are easy to understand and go well with their pictures.

This board book also has pages that have windows cut through to show part of the next or previous illustration. The gimmick works less well than in the other volumes in the series, as the sun becomes the sun and a cloud becomes another cloud.

This volume is less successful than some of the others in the series, due to a lack of consistency in wording. The text shifts (without a pattern) between adjective and noun: warm - sunny - windy - clouds. Then, cloudy is repeated on a subsequent page. The book gives us cold - then rain (not rainy) and storm (not stormy). It reads like a close but inexpert translation from another language. Had these all been adjectives or nouns, children hearing the words and looking at the book would also be gently learning something about how language works.

Learning terms typically associated with weather is the focus of this cleverly-designed board book. Not only are the colors of the simple figures visually appealing, but young readers will enjoy following a red fox as it encounters various kinds of weather. As in the case of the other three titles in this First Words series, there are cutouts and scooped out spots on the page that allow readers to see elements from the previous page as the weather turns from warm and sunny to windy and cloudy and then to a fierce storm, followed by a drizzle and a colorful rainbow with a bird chirping atop its outermost band. This is a cool way to learn about the weather, and a perfect introduction to the topic.
