Her work can be found on Pen of the Damned, as well as The Ladies of Horror Picture-prompt Challenge on Spreading the Writers Word. Additionally, she has had several pieces published in issues of The Sirens Call eZine.
Lydia has also had short stories published in both: Under Her Black Wings: A 2020 Women of Horror Anthology, and Graveyard Smash: Women of Horror Anthology Volume 2, from Kandisha Press. Her story, Sadie, won the 23rd annual Critters Readers Choice Award for best horror short story (2020).
Most recently, her co-collection with Jill Girardi, We're Not Ourselves Today has been nominated for a Sinister Scoop Golden Scoop Award.
I got this purely because one of my favourite authors, Catherine McCarthy is in it, so I knew I would get a decent story regardless, and it was much more than decent. Aside from Sonora Taylor, Jill Girardi, and Joshua Marsella, I am also a fan of them all, the other authors were new to me ( I think? I'm very bad with names) Anyway, this is a fantastic collection of stories and I enjoyed every single one, so now I've found new authors I like too. Some stories are extremely chilling, some exciting, but all are quite brilliant in their own right. This is one of those books where you buy the kindle, and then you have to buy the paperback because it belongs on your horror shelves. Amazing foreword by Ramsey Campbell too
Chilling Anthology Delving Deep into the Psyches of Horror Writers Curated by Ramsey Campbell
Absolutely stunning collection of stories- from the opening Instinct by Catherine Mccarthy- which left me reeling- to Brandon Scott's celebratory romp of Dead World Mardi Gras, through the soul wrenching Missing Pieces by Josh Darling- every single story hit that sweet spot of revelatory terror that makes scary stories so much damn fun. Meet me in the Cemetery was chilling, The Ghost Ship of Chesapeake Bay took me back to my days of discovering Poe and Lovecraft, Ash and Winter was bleak and delicious... I didn't find a single tale to give me pause to find fault. I feel myself wanting to wander into spoiler territory so I will leave it at this- if you love the soul searching scary stuff, From the Depths doesn't disappoint.
I must say, there’s some great stuff here, folks. I can personally guarantee that this anthology will knock your socks off and scare the living crap outta you!
Some favorites:
Dead World Mardi Gras by Brandon Scott (LOVED this Vodou spin-off!)
The Roiling by Jill Girardi (A really fun read!)
Weeds by Elizabeth Black (Sure makes one think. . .)
Ash and Winter by Nicholas Catron (he’s really come a long way as a writer, kudos to him!!)
Instinct by Catherine Mccarthy (WOW!! What a tale!)
Memory Lane by Bobby Lee (Glad to see this story found a good home!)
Pick it up From the Depths today, folks. If you don’t, you’ll be missing out on something amazing!
