Divorced. Bankrupt. Humiliated. Laura's life was at an all time low—her ex saw to that. Just when she thought things couldn't possibly get any worse... Laura Harrison is reeling from a failed marriage and a failed business - and the humiliation of her New York days still burns like it was yesterday. Drowning herself in work at the family's Kentucky thoroughbred farm has helped keep her demons at bay, but when her sister Lacey unexpectedly turns up from Manhattan, not only is Laura forced to confront the painful memories of her past, but the mysterious letter she delivers, forces Laura back to the city she swore she'd never return to.
Back in New York, Laura's conniving ex-husband does the unthinkable and swipes the rug out from under her all over again, leaving her utterly heart broken and ready to run back to the family farm for good. But a chance encounter with old family friend—tall, handsome, single dad Marcus—has her thinking twice. When the guy from her past with the swoon-worthy dimples offers her a place to stay, Laura finds herself doing a sudden about-face and accepting the bottom-rung fashion designer job she'd firmly rejected.
Well and truly fallen from New York fashion's good graces, Laura has to swallow her pride and start over again at the very bottom, her heart as tattered as her sullied reputation. And as if all that weren't enough, her growing affection towards her gorgeous house mate and his adorable son, isn't helping one bit. When the fashion sharks start to circle again and Laura turns to the one guy she thought she could count on - can she survive the worst betrayal of them all?

---------------------------------------------------------------- Author bio: Alexa Bloom is the first to admit that it took her a long time to figure out what she was supposed to do with her life. Having worked in a multitude of jobs from teacher to voice-over artist and everything in between, it took a change of country (Australia to Canada), a couple of children and several years for writing to find her, so she could finally stop looking.
Her first contemporary romance series The Harrisons, follows the fortunes of seven siblings raised in a charming thoroughbred farm in the heart of Kentucky. While the series begins at Lockwood Farm, each story features a different sibling and takes readers on a new adventure in a different exotic setting.
The Harrisons.BK 2. This is Laura's story, we meet her at the farm in book one. Laura is a fashion designer who had gone back to New York to sort her apartment out. Laura and her her ex husband worked together before the divorce, then he took everything and their business, she was left with nothing. While she went for a meeting with Anthony a top designer, she meet in the foyer Marcus fashion photographer ,single dad and an old friend of Blake's,Marcus, offered her a place to stay, if she needs it...Laura got her act together and put on a show only to find that people didn't want anything to do with her, Why? they say she stole someone designs.... you will have to purchase the book to find out what happens and will Laura and Marcus find and HEA? Again another fantastic book from Alexa well written and full of ups and downs looking forward to the next book.
Despite the title, this is actually a slow burn. I liked Hayes, but I wasn’t sure whether Franny and Hayes would, could, should work. They really were so different, and they kept stopping and starting.
Even though this is the 2nd book in the series it can be read as a stand alone. I've the 1st and prequel all in reverse order :) Great characters and storyline, kept me interested and entertained.
3.5 stars - A good plot surrounding a designer & her brother’s single dad friend set in the fashion world
Once in a New York Minute has me torn because I loved the uniqueness of the plot for this book which wasn’t just a typical brother’s friend romance, mixing a fashion designer with a photographer/fashion photographer single dad for a fresh take on the theme, but in the ARC I read the book needed a bit more editing to not distract the reader from the plot. Overall, the book had a good plot and likeable characters.
Told from dual perspectives, Marcus and Laura have a good connection that is steadily re-established when they end up temporarily living together, there is already some foundation given the fact they have known each other since childhood, Marcus being a friend of her brother’s, and both had secret feelings for the other when younger. While there is some development of their relationship, personally I would have liked to have seen a bit more of them together as you knew it was moving along but didn’t necessarily see it play out fully, and especially with Marcus’ son, Toby. Things do heat up but it’s a slow build and the book is mostly clean in terms of the relationship between the two.
Once in a New York Minute had a good plot that keeps things building with twists and turns throughout to stop it being entirely predictable. However, the reason I didn’t give this four stars is in the ARC copy there were quite a few grammar issues that were distracting e.g. missing speech marks, words etc. Hopefully it will be fixed from the ARC file and won’t be an issue for future readers but it distracted me from this good and unique story. One thing I can guarantee is that there is a HEA to make this a standalone read and despite following character’s from the previous book in this series, you do not need to have read that one before reading this one.
Overall, I liked the book and the author has good potential.
*I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
This book was wonderful follow up to Once in a Blue Moon! I wasn't sure how I would like a book set in New York but Alexa did a fantastic job with the setting. Laura and Marcus are perfect together, though the trip to get there was a little rocky. This book made me hate models, though. Alexa did a great job writing the "villains" in the story. They were most definitely extremely hateable. This book will play on many of your emotions but it is well worth it. I hope there will be more from Alexa in this series!
ONCE IN A NEW YORK MINUTE by Alexa Bloom book# 2 in Harrison's series Lacey comes home to give her sister Laura, the good news. Anthony wants her to come to NY and work for him. Did you ever think there maybe a reason I didn't answer him, Laura replies. Designing is her first love, not being on the farm and helping with the horses. Her ex husband made her a laughing stock and she lost everything. She is summons back to NY, and fell in love with the city again. Taking the job, and being friends with a single dad, was an added bonus. Good plot and characters, as you read along with Laura, and having a second chance at something she love's. Maybe a second chance at love, also. Readers will enjoy this second book in the series, and continuing with characters we love to hear more about. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
Enjoyed the story of Marcus & Lauren. I would have like to see more development of their romance and family unit instead of all the fashion stuff. Even though they both had trust issues, I would have liked to see them have stronger personalities. As two accomplished people, they seemed to lack the maturity that I like to see in characters regardless of their issues. Keep writing and I look forward to Lacey's story.
Once in a New York minute was a great book. It really pulls you in and you want to know what happened in Laura's life and you want her to have the happy ending but your really not sure if that is going to happen. I wish that Blake and Tatum was in the book alittle more so you can see/hear what was going on with them. Can't wait to read Lacey's story.
