Enjoy a colourful afternoon of fun and frolic with a spirited youngster as she slays monsters and demonstrates that girls can be whatever they want to be – they only need an active imagination and the love and support of a wonderful grandmother!
This charming picture book is about a little Sri Lankan girl who loves playing dress up with her Archchi (grandma in Sinhalese). She selects a colourful sari, decorates her hair, and puts on her (non-toxic) makeup with care. But she is no ordinary Asian Princess.
My brother has come to collect me. Monsters and maidens we play. This Princess fights her own battles. She’s not afraid. No way!
The book is illustrated in vibrant colours and also includes three activity pages and a DIY Jigsaw Puzzle! Empowerment and entertainment go hand in hand as you spend an enjoyable evening Dressing Up With Archchi!
This will make the perfect gift for kids who admire strong characters like Elsa, Moana, Merida, and Raya.
I wrote this book after watching my own kids enjoying the time they spend with their grandmothers. It is also a reflection of how we juggle the past and present, traditions and modernity in our lives as Asians. I have also come to realise that it is about girl power in the sense that children should be allowed to be who they want to be: there is no shame in liking pink or wearing pretty clothes. What matters is that one is equipped with the knowledge and confidence that you need not be restricted to any one "type" and that one is allowed to choose according their own heart.
I really liked the bond between the two kids and their grandma, and how they have so much fun at her house. Family time is truly the best time ever! The story is well written, very entertaining and one-of-a kind. The illustrations are so beautiful too and made the story even more enjoyable. The hidden elephant throughout the story was the icing on the cake. It will surely help children stay focused during story time. Well done!
I love the story and how it speaks of a fearless little girl who likes to dress up as a Sri Lankan princess 👸 It's a good way to break barriers early on in life.
I read it to my boys and I can see the wheels turning in my older one's head when he thinks of a little girl who's not helpless but is pretty BADASS
This is a cute story about a young girl who visits her “Archchi” which means “Grandmother” .She puts on special clothing to begin her adventure. Her brother joins her and pretends to battle monsters. The author reminds us to be creative and use your imagination during dramatic play!
Dressing up, playing with Grandmother and big brother.
The little girl from Sri Lanka loves to be a princess and dress up at grandmother's house like my granddaughter loves to play. The story is told in rhymes, which is a nice touch.
