Plague. Famine. Siege warfare. For Fiona MacLeod, the only true fate worse than death is marrying a Cameron. Unfortunately, that fate becomes a reality when Fiona is sent to marry the worst of them. With no way out of the marriage, Fiona resigns herself to being the most annoying wife in all of Scotland in the hopes that he sends her away. As time goes on, however, her new husband’s response to her tricks and churlish nature endears her to him, until one night, she finds herself in his bedchamber pleading for his attention in an entirely different way.

Fergus Cameron is the second son of the powerful Cameron clan. When his brother decides that he should be the one to marry Fiona MacLeod to seal an alliance forged years ago, Fergus is furious. Fergus doesn’t have the time to balance a new wife and a renewed war with the McDougall clan. To make matters worse, Fiona seems hellbent on making sure he knows just how much she hates him. When she launches a campaign against him, he can’t help but wage his own war against her. With a marriage doomed to misery and a clan destined for years of bloodshed, Fergus must choose his battles wisely.

Will they lose their cause, or will victory be theirs?

I really loved this historical romance. It was filled with so many things: arranged marriage, childhood enemies, miscommunication, secret desires, companionship, and love. I really enjoyed the pranks that Fiona and Fergus played on each other. I also loved the tension they had and the fact that they couldn't seem to keep their hands and mouths off each other, even with the feelings they had for one another. When they finally sit down to talk and hash it out, they discover that it is a thin line between love and hate. THEIR CHEMISTRY!!! Off the charts.

Fiona and Fergus got off to a bad start in their marriage. It doesn't help that it has been over 10 years since they have seen each other and the last time they did they hated each other. Not only do they have to sort out what they want their marriage to be like, the Camerons are nearly at war with a rival clan with each clan escalating the damage further in retaliation. Fergus does not agree with what his brother is doing but he cannot make him see reason due to his own personal hang ups. Fiona and Fergus come to terms with each other and soon begin to confide in each other. Fiona agrees with Fergus and wants to help them all reach peace.

Also, the epilogue? I was laughing out loud. I have witnessed first hand that process and the reactions during and after are real.

Humorous Scottish Romance

The Rogue's Burden is the first book that I have read by Heather Stewart and I found it to be well written and humorous with an engaging plot.

Fiona MacLeod and Fergus Cameron are set to be married to alliance their clans, but neither one is thrilled at the prospect. Fiona detests the Cameron's and Fergus's reputation makes him the worst of the lot. Fergus has many responsibilities on his plate and he does not have the time or need for a wife, especially a spoiled, stubborn one at that. As they resign themselves to the fact of their unavoidable union, they decide to not go down without a fight and the pranks and antics that follow are hilarious to read. Soon, they begin to see one another differently and perhaps marriage would not be so bad after all, but problems between the neighboring clans may become the most dangerous issue to threaten their happy union.

Overall, this was a well written and well thought out story. The characters had depth and were likable. The plot was engaging and the humor kept me interested until the end. I look forward to more books by this author and highly recommend! Well done!

This was my first experience reading something by this author and it was quite an enjoyable experience. The story is full of action, drama, and romance and caught my attention from the beginning and held it all the way through. Fiona must enter an arranged marriage to form an alliance with the Cameron clan to save her own clan from famine and protection from war. Fiona is not at all happy with this and her plan to rebel is to be the worst, most annoying wife possible. Only her antics don't annoy Fergus Cameron, they endear her to him and it doesn't take long for Fiona to change her tune and desire his attention in a more pleasant way.
The storyline was interesting and entertaining and I enjoyed the interactions and witty banter between the characters. And let's not forget the chemistry and amazing steam between them! The author did a nice job of bringing the story and characters to life. I enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more of her work.

The Rogue’s Burden - Heather Stewart
Great book to sit, read and get lost in the story.
Wishing I was there….

Set in 1624 Scotland this book is about Fergus and Fiona entering into an arranged marriage set up between families to end the conflict between their clans.
Absolutely love this series and here are just a few reasons why I loved Fergus and Fiona’s story - The Rogue’s Burden.
Both despising each other - one for his reputation as a blood thirsty rogue and a scoundrel and the other for her stubbornness and feisty temper.
Their cunning antics / pranks to get each others wrath and attention, makes it a fun read.
With plenty of sexual tension and stubbornness galore plus problems between their neighbouring clans keeping the couple apart.
Loved the characters and storyline and am looking forward to reading the next in series.
I received a copy of this for review but also pre-ordered and purchased this ebook as well.

I loved every second of this book. I enjoyed the enemies to lover's trope used in this one. Plenty of drama and romance though out this read. Scottish historical romance fans need to give this one a read.

A Good Highland Romance
A wonderful addition to a thrilling and beautiful series.
The authors descriptive writing seems to give the reader an in-depth view into the lives of the Cameron clan.
Fiona and Fergus have been enemies since childhood and now are to be married by orders of the clan leader Fergus's brother Shaw.
Lots of turmoil, distrust, anger and despair, many hilarious antics take place. We watch their romance emerge and it is a very rewarding to see how they grow and solve the problems that have plagued not only them but the clan as well.
A wonderfully exciting highland romance story that has every emotion that makes for a really enjoyable read.

It's a nice, well-written story, but it didn't do much for me. Fergus and Fiona balk at getting married, but they get to know each other better and their relationship blossoms. Fergus not only has to deal with his wife, but also has to keep his older brother Shaw in check, because his resentment and bloodlust threaten a clan war. Because she's a woman, Fiona shouldn't be involved in these kinds of things, but Fiona is a stubborn woman. I've developed such an aversion to Shaw's character that I can't imagine he still getting his HEA.
Fiona and Fergus are more sympathetic characters. I thought all the characters were a bit one-dimensional. I found the story itself a bit boring.

Fiona MacLeod must marry Fergus Cameron to stop the bloodshed between the two rival clans. Neither Fiona nor Fergus want the wedding to take place but for peace they wed. It’s a story of how two enemies learn how to trust each other to become friends and fall in love.

I did not like the chapters jumping from Fiona’s to Fergus’ viewpoint and there are typos throughout the story that the editors didn’t find, otherwise it’s a good story.

Fiona has been betrothed to Fergus after his older brother passed her along to him but she does not want to marry him and he does not want to marry her. As they embark on their marriage her older brother Shaw is set to war with the neighboring clan but Fiona only wants peace and so does Fergus but he cannot get his brother to listen to him. This is an enemy to lovers romance set in dangerous times.

I had trouble staying interested in this book. It was not very exciting, suspenseful, or romantic in my opinion. I like a book with more action.

Good

This is a very good story. The reason for only 4 stars is because I really do not like the way the chapters are titled

A great read. Conflicts on two fronts and peace treaty is won at the end. Witty, funny and action packed. Hard to put down a book when the heroine is feisty and the hero is her match in every way.
