I really wish I knew about this book earlier. I am done having children, but felt like I learned new things about having human female anatomy and hormones.
Her style is friendly and knowledgeable, and while you might think some things are obvious, someone else will really benefit from the same chapter/paragraph. After all (eye roll) every one is different. Every pregnancy is different. Every birth is different. And those statements are very true and very annoying.
This book is a real attempt to actually inform and empower pregnant or post partum people on wtaf could be happening.
The exercise chapters are well written and I loved the illustrations, it’s hard to describe how to work out, but this is a really important part of preparation and recovery. I think she tackles it really well and again, I wish I had had this as a guide for my first and subsequent pregnancies.
You get so much unsolicited and unhelpful advice while pregnant or as you push a new born in a buggy… it has a detrimental effect and may mean that you could ignore or feel unable to seek out advice that you actually want and need. So, this book that concentrates solely on the pregnant/birthing person and their health and fitness (with all the ‘we are all different’ caveats) is really welcome.
Easy to read mainly focusing on exercise and movement during and after pregnancy. Starts with general information about changes during pregnancy and covered the following topics breastfeeding, nutrition, stretching, strength and cardiovascular exercises, and general mental health.
