Little Myra was excited about Mr. Punchinello’s announcement about the annual art contest. Myra had a week to submit her art, but she couldn’t wait. Finally, Myra finished her art and gave it to the teacher. She wanted to win it, overtaking Tobee, who always seemed to compete with her. She dreamt of holding the victory trophy and even opening an art gallery. When Mr. Punchinello saw the art, he couldn’t believe his eyes. He took Myra to Dr. Lin, and she made Myra do some weird tests. Later, the teacher took Myra to the principal’s office, and he reacted like Mr. Punchinello. What did Myra draw exactly? Did she win the prize? We picked this book for its cover. The comic-styled book talks about how a little girl’s positivity leads to an outcome she firmly believes in. The illustrations are fun and wild, like little Myra’s imagination, strengthening the storyline. Adults need to read this book to understand what it is like to be a kid. It took me a little bit to connect the dots, but once I did, everything clicked and I gasped. I can't imagine what it took to put this into a picture book format, and it's a picture book I'll never forget.
