It took me entirely too long to read this - not because of the book but due to a move and increasing work schedule but I SO enjoyed this book!

It’s almost like reading a very interesting podcast in the way it’s set up and deals with both heavy and light topics from the perspective of two interior designers!

I loved the personal stories, renovation terms, and the book was easy to connect to.

If you’ve got an HGTV lover in the house this would make a great gift!

My rating: 5*

Revived and Renovated: Real Life Conversations on the intersection of Home, Faith and Everything in Between by Victoria Duerstock and Paige Rien uses home renovation words to describe work both in our houses and in our personal faith lives.

Revived and Renovated is written as a conversation between Victoria and Paige. At first it took a few pages to get in to the rhythm of their conversation but once I did, it was easy to understand and follow. These two women both work with houses in real life. They are also are Christian women who can easily relate all of the words used to make houses better and apply them to their Christian lives as they seek to revive, renovate, restore , repurpose and recover with some other re words in between.

I thought Paige and Victoria did a good job of both sharing the information related to making our houses and our home life better and making our spiritual lives better. Both women come from different spiritual backgrounds so most readers should be able to relate to them in one way or another. One woman is a relatively new believer and the other was raised in the Christian faith and had a long history of believing. There are some good helps in Revived and Renovated for making some home changes. There are also some resources if you need to make spiritual changes due to addiction of some sort since that is how one of them came to Christ.

All in all, I would recommend Revived and Renovated. There is a lot of good information in the book, as well as Bible story and spiritual information. If I were not reviewing the book, I would want to go through it more slowly and read a word a week. It would also be a good book to do as a study with a group of women.

What a lovely book about life, spiritual growth, and creating a beautiful home!

Co-authors Victoria Duerstock and Paige Rien converse throughout this book about the work we do in our homes, and the work God also does in us (and sometimes, how we partner with Him in this work). These all start with the letter R, such as Revived, Renovated, Restored, Refurbished, Reclaimed, Renewed, Refocused, Remade, Repurposed, Renamed, and Recovered. They talk about ways these actions can be used in improving or renovating a home, whether it's reclaiming areas for different purposes, bringing new life to rooms by simply painting the walls or specific furniture, or taking something old and reshaping it into something new. There are pages here and there that offer ideas and direction for using a tool or a practice to accomplish these things.

Victoria and Paige talk in each chapter about life. Each of those topics covers something practical that can be done in our homes; but at the same time, the words describe the spiritual formation and even creation that God does in us as He calls us to Himself, as He leads us and guides us. And what encouraging words they are! How amazing it is to read about how God reclaims us for His own. How He renames us as His adopted children. How He repurposes us for things we'd never dreamed of. And more.

This is a wonderfully encouraging book. Victoria and Paige have fresh, delightful voices and communicate beautifully with each other and the reader, whether it's about home design or spiritual design. I'm happy to recommend this to you, especially for women. It would be a great gift!

I love remodeling projects and enjoy seeing the end results. I love watching home improvement shows! This title intrigued me right away and I couldn’t wait to read it. The book paints a beautiful correlation of home, faith, and everything in-between. I love how the author says sometimes a job is big and everything needs to be gutted and sometimes a simple refresh is needed. Isn’t that so much like our walk serving the Lord as there are times we need to be refreshed and other times it really hurts and we have to really dig in to overcome sin, disappointment, and other things that are on our path.

The book reads like a conversation going back and forth sprinkled with scriptures throughout. Each chapter has a scripture it jumps off of. You will see words that correspond with remodeling projects and the author connects it with faith. The book is light-hearted and heartfelt. You will also have some pro tips on remodeling projects throughout.

It seems like an odd combination but this book is beautifully written. I haven’t completely finished the book but I am truly enjoying this book. This would make a lovely gift.

Being a fan of renovation television shows, this book made a connection in a real way. Victoria and Paige have created an informational and heartwarming book relating their home improvement terms to how God forms our lives into who we are supposed to be.

Each chapter goes into detail with a definition of the term and how it relates to scripture. The writing is easy to understand, light-hearted, and uplifting. The Bible verses in each chapter bring a truer meaning to the theme of each chapter and tie it into our lives.

The message in the book is enlightening and lets us know that maybe we are different, but then maybe we are exactly how God means for us to be. Highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy from the authors and voluntarily choose to review it.

I'd never heard of the authors, though they apparently have a show on HGTV, so I wasn't drawn to the book for that reason. We did, however, build our own house, and it's been a work in progress for nearly two decades! Home renovation is a hobby, and it's interesting to look at our own lives through the same lens. Taking one small step, over and over again, leads to major reconstruction and change. The book not only teaches you some home renovation tips, but encourages you to think about yourself, your faith, and your home in an inspirational way.

Reading Revived & Renovated is like sitting down and listening to a conversation between good friends. The exchange is honest, heartfelt, and helpful. The authors artfully draw parallels between efforts to improve ourselves and our houses. Specific ways to make improvements are set out in a pleasing alliterative fashion, including refocus, refurbish, and repurpose. Bible verses are sprinkled throughout the book stressing the ultimate renovator is the Creator of the world, the source of our revival.
