Love and Other Fairy Tales

Rate this book
Love and Other Fairy Tales, by poet Adam Horovitz, explores love in all its forms: familial, sexual, romantic, anarchic, religious, faithful and unfaithful. The poems evoke the deep seams of love that run through the strata of living; how love crosses borders and seeps into humanity’s approach to the way we live with the natural and the man-made worlds, seen through the lenses of personal histories, myth, joy, gods, war, loss and longing.

Adam's work is always a delight to read or hear and Love and Other Fairy Tales is no exception. The poems have a good rhythm, and emulate the human heartbeat during the different stages of emotion well. The imagery heralds a torturous beauty tangled up in the British countryside, reminding us that how we view our environment is often a reflection of how we feel. A truly beautiful and evocative collection. The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 was because the first section felt a little out of place, but it's not a huge barrier to reading.

This was so beautifully written, I fell in love with Love & Other Fairy Tales. There is a bit of magic in between the verses that stirs upon reading. It's a very craveable little book of poetry that you get in the mood to revisit. It holds a prominent place upon my shelf and will continue to for all my days.

It took me a while to get around to finishing this, but liked all the poems in the end and occasionally wanted to give him a big hug; they were so poignant.
