FAST-PACED, CONTROVERSIAL, UNPUTDOWNABLE. YOU'VE NEVER READ AN ALIEN INVASION SERIES LIKE IT.
The first contact occurred in 1803. A British warship in the Atlantic Ocean was harassed by a mysterious sky vessel all the way to the antarctic. Overwhelmed by technology beyond imagination, the ship only survived due to the courage and ingenuity of its skipper, Captain Alexander Burns.
Five hundred years later, the second contact occurred. By then the world had changed out of recognition. The global government actually welcomed the invaders and their charismatic leader. Only a brave and clear-eyed navy officer, Lieutenant Alexander Burns dared to fight back.
With the government offering up the planet in the name of tolerance, the world is all but conquered by the ‘visitors.’ Lieutenant Burns lies broken and defeated by imprisonment and torture. But when all hope seems lost, he makes a discovery that might save the world at last—if only he can survive.

M.M. Holt is a mysterious figure who lives partly in the real world, but more often in his imagination.
He writes science fiction, horror and adventure novels, often involving a Navy lieutenant named Alex Burns who struggles to keep his sanity in a future world gone mad with political correctness. This same Alex Burns also fights alien invaders. Sometimes Burns's great seafaring ancestors also appear in the books. They are also named Alex Burns, and in their own times, they also battled invaders from beyond the stars. Battling aliens and dystopian regimes is like a family tradition.
M.M. Holt is relentless traveler. He can usually be found writing in cafes by the sea, or in a bar on the edge of a crowded street, usually in far flung cities. If you see him, he'll be the handsome yet enigmatic stranger pounding the keyboard of his laptop, pausing only to sip black coffee and glance warily over his shoulder. He knows the Accord Of Nations is always one step behind.
Brilliant trilogy for fans of military Sci-Fi and a smidgen of time travel back to the days of the old sailing ships of the Royal Navy during the nepolionic wars set against an earth that has taken diversity to extremes
The best of sf takes current societal issues to the extreme. This enables us to see the nonsenses implicit in these norms. This series does this with our current obsession with correct pronouns. In many ways it is Swiftian, in the sense that Gulliver’s Travels poked fun at his own society. The narrative is fast paced and exciting.
Holt's series harkens back to the days of classic sci-fi and Edgar Rice Burroughs adventure stories. The three books are fast-paced and filled with action and suspense. From a "Master and Commander" opening to a dystopian Orwellian kind of future, Holt keeps you on your toes as you read. A fun ride from beginning to end.
really well done , if not a terrifying look at the way our world is headed . Look forward to the next chapter for Alex , I have a feeling he's far from done .
A series that just kept on giving at so many levels. One of those I just randomly picked and ended up thoroughly enjoying. I love the way the author wove his tale from the decks of a Royal Navy vessel, to the Cavernous Interior of an alien galactic warship. How he created a world drowning in Political Correctness, so intense it was almost Nazi like in its level of control. All these strands finally where woven together, with different times and outcomes until, Burn,s was delivered from a terrible fate and rescued from the clutches of the Accord and its values. Thoroughly enjoyed this different read.
None of the usual crappola writerly devices (i.e., blood, head-butting on every other page, eating bowls of chili, drinking TONS of alcohol, vomit, sweat, sipping, pumping arms or legs, headaches, etc….)
Long live Alex Burns! What a journey. Won't say why. Don't want to spoil it. But, let's say, it's well worth taking the time to make it! Keep writing M.M Holt. Keep moving! Absolutely superb.
THE INVADERS ARE ONE ENEMY. POLITICAL CORRECTNESS IS THE OTHER.
”We were defenseless. The invaders could take the planet without a shot being fired. Not that the government would try to defend us. Not on your life. They were in a centuries-long state of denial. They were so blinded by political correctness, they called the invaders ‘visitors’ and named the destructive beams ‘cultural displays.’
Holt writes about a WOKE world that our current political, academic and LGBTQ leaders dream of and are working hard to achieve!
Holt writes a story that moves in action. He also writes using the political language of today with authenticity I could not develop and for that, I'm in awe.
Really enjoyed volume 1. But found the political correctness behind volumes 2 & 3 pretty horrible. I did finish the volumes but didn't enjoy them and would not recommend reading them.
First volume was okay but went downhill rapidly after that. Far too many typos. Preposterous plots and ridiculous, shallow characters in second and third volumes. Waste of money.
The Editing was horrible Spelling errors Grammatical errors . It looks like if any editing was done it was very poor AI or it was outsourced to India or some other country.
