Eyewitness and survivor accounts provide the basis for an account of the events preceding the May, 1980, eruption of Mount St. Helens, the devastating explosion itself, and its aftermath
A good cover of this significant eruption, briskly told. The photos were shocking as devastated areas are highlighted in the pictures. Definitely worth the read.
Having just returned for the PNW and seeing Mt St Helens I went down a rabbit hole since I remember knowing it erupted but didn’t pay attention at the time. Fascinating.
I love Mt. St. Helens because Americans get to say they have had hell fire and brimstone rained on them in the continental states in modern times. I thought this event defined the 80's more than rock or religion. The book although a mild mannered children's romp has plenty of anecdotes and valid information on geology, history and organizational recoveries after the big blow. It's a good read.
