You think you know your father—but what if he kept secrets until the day he died? Just hours after delivering his father’s eulogy, Ken Weintraub learns that this hard-working, unassuming man spent three years in prison. Consumed by the astonishing news, Ken sets out to unravel the mystery. As he pries information from old friends, relatives, and others, he pieces together a portrait that’s full of contradictions. Was his father an assassin’s accomplice? A gullible victim? Or a heroic, loyal friend? Everywhere he turns, he hears stories that surprise him. Even when he thinks he knows the whole truth, there’s still more to learn.
Putting aside that I've known Michael since elementary school, I had no idea he was an author until this book was published. And now I know that he has several others that have been written over the years.
But in all honesty, Eulogy is a treasure. A wonderful read that I couldn't put down. One that I read in its entirety in just a couple of days. It's that good! Plus, it isn't a 500-page colossal book, making it easier to stay with and complete. The story is fabulously creative, the writing detailed so well that you can picture each 'scene' as if you're there. We all have relatives like those created by Michael, so it's hard not to smile at times and cringe at others.
If you're looking for something that isn't by a big-name author that everyone says "You gotta read this", branch off and read Eulogy. You'll be glad you did.
“A lie is such an effective poison. Those who want to believe it will accept it as true.” Eulogy is a beautifully written and moving novel about a son’s quest to discover the truth about his father’s life after losing him. The lovely language will sweep you forward on the compelling journey, while the narrator simultaneously and repeatedly captures you with his wry and wise insights. A memorable read.
I was surprisingly engaged and moved by this slim novel about a man who discovers a shocking secret about his father after the funeral--that his father was in prison for 3 years--and goes to great lengths to track down all of the reasons why and how it all went down. Really nicely written.
A compelling story of the relationship between father and son as the son searches for the real story behind his father's war. Moving, intimate, honest. Highly recommended.
