Waiting for the Savior - Advent Study

Rate this book
This 4-week study, following the Advent calendar, traces the lineage of Jesus Christ throughout Scripture. From the beginning of Scripture, people waited in expectant longing for God’s promised Savior. When we read of Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem, we might forget the hundreds of years that came before He lay in a manger. God’s plan of redemption came through a long line of imperfect, sinful people, to bring forth a perfect, sinless Savior. The family tree of Jesus Christ points us to the hope of our salvation that every kind of person with every kind of story is invited to belong.

Overall pretty good study. It is a 7 day 4 week study, but it only takes about 15 minutes a day. The information was good, but didn’t always tie into the theme of the week. The questions inspired thoughtfulness without isogesis. There are hints of covenant theology and they assumed Rahab was the direct grandmother of Boaz instead of likely being his great, great, and some more great grandmother. Otherwise, a great study. I look forward to trying some more of theirs.

This Bible study was exactly what I needed to prepare my heart for Christmas. The genealogy of Jesus offers such a rich consideration of the story of redemption and builds the anticipation for Jesus’ birth like nothing else. One name after another, we see exactly the kind of people that Jesus came to save, and we see more and more glimmers of the gospel until Jesus finally arrives. No one tells a story better than God.

I appreciate that this Bible study doesn’t spoon-feed but does offer some guiding rails. Very helpful for those times when we need some extra support during inductive Bible study. The opportunity to write out prayers throughout the study was an especially welcome addition. I also commend the publisher for making the Bible study book itself high quality. It is fitting that when we study the most beautiful book ever written, our study resources reflect that beauty.

This was a great advent study. I appreciated how it aligned with the family coordinating advent devotional: Waiting for Jesus. It made the family advent study time more meaningful when I had finished my personal study using this book before we used the family book after dinner each evening. Having the background knowledge and more details from my study helped me to communicate with my kids on the same topics. This study was a blessing to me during advent this year.

I really enjoyed reading through the genealogy of Jesus and better understanding how God can use broken people, but also the true expectation and waiting for a Messiah. This was an excellent devotional to better understand Advent (waiting) before Christmas.

I really enjoyed this Advent devotional. I’ve never read about the genealogy and the prophesied lineage of Christ, in relationship to Christmas. Each person that we read about showed us just how much we need Jesus as our savior.

This was my first Daily Grace Co. Bible Study and I LOVED IT! The structure is different from other Bible studies but very easy to follow. The reflection questions made me dig deeper into the Bible, and called for a sense of reflective ness I’ve never had before.
This advent study was especially effective, as I never looked into the genealogy of Jesus. To further understand how God used each ordinary person to fulfill the coming of the Messiah was eye-opening. Highly recommend this study and the company!

This was a really good walk through the genealogy of Matthew 1 that emphasized the fullness of God’s plan unfolding in unexpected ways.

This is a great resource from the Daily Grace Co.
