Hayden Dawson is back again and this time he's ready to return to the fold of all that is good, but the transition from Second in Command of the galaxy's fiercest foe to the galaxy's Savior won't be an easy one. Even the might of all his powers aren't enough to save the day and clear his conscience.
Hayden was once vulnerable to the seductive call of darkness, but after answering its call and serving as its slave for years, he's ready to shed the personae of Dark Warmonger and step back into the light as the man he was destined to be.
Will the light inside of him be enough to hold that darkness at bay in order for him to step into his calling? Or will The Shadow continue to wage war on the galaxy and snuff out all that is good?
With Hayden devoting all his skills, resources, and powers to serving the Greater Good, where will his journey lead him? Will he find peace or will the sins of his past keep him from being who he was prophesized to be?
The galaxy cries out for the return of the One, but is he truly ready to take up that mantle?

As the author I'm a little biased, but 'Return of the One' is just a wild ride! We find our hero, Hayden Dawson, on the road to redemption following the events of Book 5 of the 'Across the Stars' Series.
ROTO picks up right where book 5 left off and takes you on a ride that revolves around the consequences of war and the devastating side of guilt and the road to redemption.
I hope you all enjoy this labor of love as much as I did!
This was a great addition to the ACROSS THE STARs in which Hayden has to grapple with reconciling with an irredeemable past while attempting to build up a future and start afresh.
One aspect I enjoyed about this book was its strong focus on bettering one’s self and it did not shy away from the theme of asking for help even when everyone around you sees this image that you got yourself together. This is one of the themes I liked from the previous novel whereas the protagonist was in a strong leadership role and all the characters virtually looked up to Hayden as a beacon of hope. Deep down, Hayden had more internal demons than he was letting on and he often focused on the physical war against the Shadow as an outlet to hide his pain… until it caught up to him.
In this edition, Hayden is still very much in that same position, only now he grapples with the aftermath of the bridges he burned with his family and friends that he almost abandoned following the ways of the Shadow.
The action scenes were far more fluid this time around but I enjoyed the drama and interplay of the character work far more engaging this time around. All in all, it was a solid edition to the series.
I wanted to write my review while the story was still in my mind. Let's start with the positive, thanks to the author for gifting me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. I must say I've enjoyed reading this series. It's refreshing and adds to the sci fi genre. 3 1/2 stars out of 5.
Now, I enjoyed the character development of Hayden, but it was lacking for most of the supporting characters. It's always nice to see a main character grow and not remain stagnant but I must say I'm disappointed in the fact that Hayden changed so abruptly.
As a reader, I felt we didn't get to truly soak in his darkness before he retreated from that path to be a good guy again. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed his run as a villain. The angst was palpable and the internal struggle comes alive on the page. I just wish the story felt more cohesive.
Some portions felt rushed, as if the author was bored with the story at times. This might've benefitted from more editing to ensure the story flowed. However, the ending was game changing. Overall, return of the one serves as a turning point in the series where our hero realizes what's truly important and is ready to tackle things. I just wonder where the series is going and hope we get there faster.
