Facing the reality that his child is terminally ill seems impossible for Lonan. The limits of his sanity are truly tested when the shadow creatures of Celtic legend known as the Sluagh come looking for his dying daughter's soul. Their very existence brings back his own childhood trauma. Now he must face his father, the fate of his sick child, and the monsters from his grandfather's stories. It's too much to take on but if he can't save his daughter's life he has to at least find a way to save her eternal soul but at what cost? The birds are everywhere and some of them aren't birds at all. Some of them are something else, something far more sinister, and they are closing in.
Chisto started writing as a child and it was always his biggest passion, though he is also a musician and artist. When he was forced to quarantine in March 2020 due to the pandemic, he decided to focus on his writing and write full-time and has since had 100 stories accepted to be published, many of which are already out there. He hopes this is only the beginning...
Out of all the books, this might be the darkest story I've read from Chisto. The black birds are not what they seem to be. The real shocker was the ending, it came out of left field. Imagine a curse that you can't escape without the ultimate sacrifice and that's what you have here with The Dying.
The ending teared me up as I was cheering for the main characters, but that ending made me change how I felt about a certain character I won't spoil here.
One of the best books I've read from Chisto and that's saying a lot considering I've become a fan of his.
The Dying is a story about Celtic Legends that comes true in this heart-rending, page-turner of a story. The characters are perfectly developed and well-thought out. The plot is just absolutely insane and everything just flowed together seamlessly. There is a HUGE twist that I NEVER saw coming. This book is absolutely beautiful and the story itself is so powerful and brings parents true fears to the surface.
Chisto is such a talented writer and continues to prove that he can write any type of book he sets his mind to. I’ve laughed, shed some tears and have been completely terrified by stories he has put out. He is such a stand-out author and an immediate instant buy/read for me. I always know he has something great up his sleeve with how eclectic his writing is.
This is a story for any and everyone. I highly recommend!
This book by Chisto Healy was a walk through every parent's worst nightmare. A fever dream of ultimate sacrifice and love. This tale was beautiful and horrifying.
