Subject: Pure False Narrative – Legal Notice Served On Author

May I please draw your kind attention to the book “ESCAPE FROM PAKISTAN – THE UNTOLD STORY” by Ms. Deborah Ann Shea claiming it to be a true account which your publication has reviewed.

There is absolutely NO TRUTH in the account written about Mr Frank S. Dewar, Indian Police Service, Padmashree or that of his family’s return to India from Karachi, Pakistan in 1965 after the war.

I am not commenting on any other account in that book save what pertains to my Father and my Family. There is not an iota of truth to the manner in which we (Dewars’). returned to India. My father returned aboard a Swissair flight. My Mother, siblings and I returned aboard an Education Cruise Ship of the British India Lines, registered in London.

I would like you to satisfy yourself before you believe me. I give three, of the many, points you can verify on your own.

The author claims in her book that:

1. HE G. Parthasarathy was the Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan. Your search will reveal that in September 1965, Mr Parthasarathy, was the Permanent Representative for India in the United Nations.
2. HE Kewal Singh was the Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan and he, Mr. Singh, returned to India when India closed down it’s Mission in Pakistan.
3. On page 116 of the said book, the author writes “You know that the Indian Prime Minister has passed away”. Shree Lal Bahadur Shastri passed on in January 1966, we, The Dewars’ were all back in India well before the year 1966 arrived!

Ms. Deborah Ann Shea has been served with a Legal Notice by my Lawyers and they are awaiting her response.

This thrilling non-fiction has kept me hooked from the beginning till the end. This is no less of a perfect thriller that has happened in reality. The way this was penned by the author makes it even more interesting and appealing. Loved the way the incident was narrated which has never slumped at any point which I guess is the success of this real story.

There are many incidents like this that never comes to the limelight but when it does, there is no doubt that it goes all the way to capture the heart and the soul of the readers. I am certainly not an exemption. This all begins with Mahendra Singh who hails from a wealthy family and falls in love with the daughter of the then Postmaster General, Gladys. Even before things could go well in their favor, they get separated and she was pregnant. Garnet Milton Shea aka Jack Shea was the symbol of that love which was explained in great detail and perfection that it adds a perfect love element to this otherwise thrilling novel. However, when Jack grows up, it wasn't difficult for him to get married to his lady love Dorothy Hope aka Doe.

For this Doe has to travel all the way from India to Southampton on a 45 days ship journey which shows life wasn't fast and easy those days and they braved the odds to make it happen. Their marriage takes place in 1951 and the incident is set to happen in 1965 after India's war with Pakistan. When the Pakistanis sniff about their Indian counterpart indulging in espionage, the duty of Prem Dewan and his family falls on Jack Shea. He is also attacked at a party that was held in the Indian Deputy High Commissioner's House in Karachi where he gets hospitalized and was in Coma. How he comes out of it and how he saves the family in this high voltage sequence of incidents is all this book is about.

I highly recommend this novel. Jack Shea has received AVSM medal twice. Heroes like him should be celebrated without any doubt or second thought. Let us do our best in making his story go viral.

This is a book is a eye-witness account about Commodore G.M.Shea's (AVSM) days as military attaché in Pakistan as seen by his daughter Deborah
Now three things (demerits, maybe!!):
1.The book is not totally factual as some creative liberties have been taken by the author(how could she know what were Pakistani establishment saying about her father or did 'Prem Dewan' exist or was his name changed, if so why).
2.It is not about the escape of Commodore Shea from Pakistan. To be frank, escape is only a part of the book. Commodore Jack returned to India after completing his assignment in a normal way.
3.The book was marketed very aggressively on social media. I am not saying, it is wrong; but selling a book on a promise of a 'true story' which has disputes is unethical.
The book is written as a thriller and is almost 'un-put-downable' once you start reading.
It is a good book which if read like a thriller novel is brilliant; but do your fact checking before believing it is true story.

Slow in the beginning. But once the main plot unfolds it is unputdownable.
