This new edition of Bruce Hunt's popular guide reveals the real, old-time Florida still to be found on the back roads of the Sunshine state in little towns that lure you in with their quaintness and keep you there for a spell with their friendly occupants. The towns featured all have a population of less than 15,000. There is an introduction with each town's history. Included are museums, galleries, antiques shops, local eateries, local fishing holes, and unusual and endearing local characters. This travelogue and guidebook lets you experience the flavor of Florida's back-road burgs and provides directions, addresses, phone numbers, and websites.
My favorite parts were the interesting historical, geographical, and miscellaneous tidbits about the small towns. I've always wondered what happened to that Inn at the intersection on the way into Yeehaw Junction (not to mention how the town got its name), and now I know. I was surprised to see so much focus on a single restaurant in each small town, which for all I know won't be there if I ever get to go. There are a lot of cool little places in the Keys, too, which didn't make the cut. Oh well. More motivation to get out there and discover things on my own :)
