The product of a five-year project partially funded by FIPSE (the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education),this set of a student study guide and four interactive Macintosh CD-ROMs has been evaluated extensively. Language and literacy professors Riskso and Kinzer share their expertise by combining case-based instruction with user-friendly technology to create content-rich learning environments. The result is case-based instruction—complete with lesson plans, students' reading scores and records, activities, and background information—along with actual classroom footage to take your preservice teachers directly into the classroom. The case study footage comes with audio tracks of interviews with parents, administrators and discussants to help your students consider different perspectives. The reality-based learning environment features cases with classroom footage introduced by an anchor narrative and easily referenced interviews with teachers, parents, administrators, students, and discussants. Because there are no "correct answers" to these case studies, your college students can be motivated to analyze cases as "embedded data" to facilitate discussions of strategies, solutions, and possible outcomes for teaching dilemmas. The cases can be used as a core course, for discussion enhancement,or for independent study. With the simple click of a mouse, you and your students can repeatedly examine the same situation, analyzing it from multiple perspectives. You can navigate through each case quickly and easily, customize the case to your own course needs,or even design your own case from the footage provided. The unique Student Guide gives your studentsvaluablebackground information crucial to developing each case. The Guide contains authentic materials and written work by many of the children in each case,a summary of class test scores and specific tests and test results. The selected lesson plans included in the Guide will help spark classroom discussion before or after viewing portions of the CD-ROM footage. The Macintosh CD-ROMs provide case studies to accompany the Student Study Guide. The instructor receives one of each CD gratis upon adoption. The CD-ROMs can also be purchased separately by students. System Macintosh computer with system 7. 1 or newer,a color monitor, and at least 8 megabytes of RAM.
