The North Atlantic Anomlay’s effects have grown too real to ignore, and the country has plunged into chaos. Tom, Samantha and Jerry are still working their way home, while Barbara, Linda and Jack fight to defend their homestead in Epoch’s End Book 2.

In the North Atlantic, a massive fissure in the sea floor has opened up, and an underground reservoir is releasing quadrillions of gallons of water into the oceans.

A dozen Naval ships investigating this strange anomaly are sunk, leaving one scientist and his daughter as the only survivors.

As unforeseen consequences spread from the anomalous rupture, those on both land and sea are faced with the reality that life in the world is rapidly changing as the current epoch ends… and a new one begins.

Shatter Book 2

Another great book, Can Tom, Jerry and Sam get back to the farmstead? Are Barbara and the kids ok at the farmstead with all the cars clogging up the road in front of the house? I can’t wait to find out in the next book.

SHATTER - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

Book 2 of Epoch's End by Mike Kraus, SHATTER relates events at an Air Force Base in Alaska where mysterious flights are arriving ever more often.
After a crash in a North Carolina tunnel, engineer Tom McKnight and daughter Sam rescue badly injured Jerry, who's fleeing loan sharks.
Barbara McKnight and her other children, Linda and Jack, brave rioters in nearby Bristol, to stock up. After killers invade, they're glad of their neighbours (and Tom's prior training), to help save them and their farmstead home.
Deteriorating weather conditions caused by a North Atlantic anomaly, make temperatures drop catastrophically and the President's advisor/'enforcer' Colonel Banks act drastically.
Will this unexpected turn of events stop Tom, Sam (and Jerry), from getting home now?

To find out, get your copy of SHATTER, Book 2 of Mike Kraus' stunning modern 'what if...' post-Apocalyptic survival thriller series, Epoch's End, that takes you right to the cutting edge of this all-too-possible glimpse of our future existence!

The Cut scenes are a waste of time. Maybe the author will bring some of the cuts scenes back in future books, but in over half of them all the characters seem to die. I don't need to read 30+ pages about some random characters that are gonna never be talked about again. It honestly just pisses me off to read more than a few pages that are meaningless.

The entire submarine scene? The author had already made it clear that the "Anomoly" was growing, so pointless.

The cruise ship scene, it's possible the author brings some of those characters back, but did it need 38 pages?

And again, several story continuity problems. Is the anomaly 10k, or 1k long. I realize it's growing, but the initial size keeps getting stated at different sizes. Also the order of events keeps changing for different characters.

Basically all of this stuff makes me never want to pay for this authors content.

This continues the action from the first book with Barbara and the children trying to survive on the farm and Tom, Jerry and Sam attempt to get home. There were some editing issues , such as, a couple of oddly constructed sentences and at one point the female Banks' pronoun changes to a male one and back again. Tom's group seems particularly mired down and dogged with a lot of bad luck and some weak choices. I'm am a little bothered that Banks has gone from a decent commanding officer to one that is willing to punish and demean Tom to get him to cooperate. Surely there are higher ranks above her. The premise of this book is very interesting and anytime a discussion of the Milankovitch cycles can be woven into a story, that is a good thing.

It's Not Just an Anomaly

The effects of the anomaly become clearer and the race is on to find a solution. In the meantime a hurricane moves in bringing high winds, high waves, flooding and near freezing cold temperatures. Getting from place to place is getting extremely difficult with communication about as bad. What's Tom's plan? To get home. Except his plan is much simpler than the current reality will allow. And so, the struggle begins.....

Entertaining

Tom, his daughter Sam and Jerry are on their way from hurricane damaged east coast to their farm near Bristol. On their way they are stopped by a military checkpoint and detained because Tom is on a list of persons needed to help with anomaly in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast.
Meanwhile Barbara, Linda and Jack are fortifying the homestead when they are attacked by 5 scumbags trying to rob them.

life at the End of an Epoch

This second book of the Epoch’s End is extremely engrossing as the characters find themselves draw deeper into the chaos of this emerging global catastrophe. The slow but steady downward spiral is gripping and so very realistic. I can’t wait for Book 3. Well done Mike.

Survival gets tougher

Fear and greed from outsiders makes survival even more work, especially for Barbara and the kids on the farm. Earth grows colder. Those in charge are playing a serious game I think! It’s super easy to sink into this story, practically living moment by moment with those characters that catch the imagination.

Definitely needs an editor! Slow moving plot

So many grammatical errors, inconsistencies, etc which take away from the flow of the story. Lots of overly descriptive details about mundane actions ( … Barbara took five steps away from the house and guided the beam toward the chicken coops … ). I do enjoy how the author writes for the most part

Good Post Apocalyptic story

This one just keeps getting better. And I become more and more invested in the family at the center of it, the McKnights, who remain separated. The mother and daughter in the farm are dealing with intruders and securing their home, while the father and daughter and a friend find themselves struggling to get home.

What a story. A massive fissure opens on the sea bed , there’s chaos and more. Intriguing all the way, keeping you in suspense as to what happens next. As you read, you wonder what else could possibly happen. Loved it.

Review

At last Smooch gets to sleep inside the house. I hated her being locked out. Interesting story based on an event only ever occurring in science fiction. The characters are well done so I’m enjoying the series. Wondering when book three comes out.

Frightening

So far the series is good. My only problem is with most of the men in Mr. Jesus's books, and many authors, always feel they have to save the world while their families suffer.

Shatter book 2

Great book so far. I can't wait for the third book to read. I can understand about FEMA they have absolute power and control during and after any kind of natural or unnatural disaster.

Excellent Book

The scenario is realistic and the characters are well written. The book makes one realize that things could get bad quickly in our country if we had a national disaster. I recommend this author and this book.
