Easy-to-read summary of just what it says: remarkable discoveries. Talks about Faraday, Maxwell, Rontgen, Curies, Einstein, Pasteur, and the other big name scientists and explains well what they did and why it was so, well, remarkable. Not a lot of sweet quotable trivia, but lots of easily-digested nutritious science.

A true gem.

I was amazed at the way the book covered the niche areas of science pioneers in a cognitive, meaningful, and detailed manner. It broadly reflects different perspectives from that era, including skeptical viewpoints on theories and alternative explanations (if any). The author also successfully addresses the complexity of these discoveries, showing how problems can be approached from broader or different angles—that's why this book does such an excellent job. You can't pull yourself away from the topics because they feel like your own problems! Immersive.

The content was excellent throughout, except for the last three sections. These final sections felt too medicine-oriented for my taste, though this is understandable given Ashall's medical background. Of these three, the very last section was the most accessible as book's best way.

I'm appreciated Sir Frank Ashall for this amazing book. I'm not sure if I'll ever find a gem like this again.

found this book incidentally just to study the chapter on plate tectonics , ended up reading cover to cover , wonderful ! fascinating . One more thing , it elaborates how status quoists impeded some of the works of outstanding individuals :)
