Another reviewer commented that this book was a "...biased, dry, white supremacist, colonial, religious..." history. Given that the book covers the history of the Oliver neighbourhood between 1870 and 1950 it is a settler history and describes the religious and cultural motivations of the settlers who developed the Oliver neighbourhood during this period. I enjoyed the book and it helped me understand the neighbourhood I have lived in and worked in for many years.
