I’d never have known about this ultramodern novel if Mason hadn’t given me a copy, and it gets 5 stars. He’s the Welsh Irvine Welsh without the superfluous humour. Cold Snap is a long howl of hatred and misogyny redeemed by feminist revenge torture porn. It’s a xenophobic, racist, sexist, alcoholic, drug-fuelled, stridently profane, sickening stream of mayhem. Relentlessly confrontational, Mason is most eloquent in abusive and violent scenes. Read this nasty little book if you dare.
