Kathleen Wood is a founder and business strategist, and her new novel “Founderology” provides creative and innovative tips for employees who work directly with “founders” (any Business Leader, Entrepreneur, Owner-Operator, Franchisor, etc). Using “Finding Your Sanity, Embrace Your Journey” and “Love Your Journey” as the tenets for her wisdom, she speaks to any employee in any industry, who is looking for a way to find (and keep) their motivation in the business world, and how to work with any boss.

Wood’s writing is clear and concise. The information in “Founderology” is very generalizable, and can be used by any employee in any field, as long as they report directly to a “Founder”. There is no complicated language, and Wood does not patronize employees or target Founders, but instead she introduces both as individuals, and helps a reader gain insight in to why Founders act and think the way they do.

“Founderology” discusses the main challenges employees will face with their Founder such as egos, perfectionism and unrealistic expectations by introducing what makes a Founder act or think this way and the best tips on how to succeed professionally. Wood summarizes her thoughts at the end of each section, providing a very basic list of “dos” and “don’ts”, which serves to drive home her points.

Wood’s novel is a fresh take on the business world, and the ever-changing expectations on both employees and founders. “Fouderology” is absolutely a novel for any employee who is looking for ways to navigate life in a Founder-run business.

This book is curated to meet the needs of a particular sub-category of employed people, those who are looking to gain a better understanding of their Founder so that their experience at the workplace improves. Founderology focuses on the betterment of employee and founder relationships but is addressed to the employees. The author excels in this field with hands-on experience of helping out hundreds of companies.

If one had to summarise the book in a single sentence, the following quote would be apt -
“Minimize your suffering, maximize your achievements”

Common questions such as how to get a better understanding of the Founder, how to improve communication, how to increase performance and results even when the founder seems dissatisfied are addressed in this book in different chapters. What is unique is that one gets to read the opinion of a person who has worked on both sides of the dynamic.

This book is a real-life how-to guide. It contains pearls of wisdom from Kathleen Wood, which is termed Woodism. Founders cannot get the work done alone; they need employees, particularly satisfied ones. Different stories are told from both perspectives. These scenarios help the reader to get a third person's or outsider's point of view about a situation that they might have faced or relate to.

The language used in the book is crisp and to the point. It just gets the work done. There is minimal usage of jargon, and the author uses layman terms to make understanding easier. The book is structured and organized in a way that improves readability. It takes expert opinions from behavioral specialists, sociologists, and psychologists to provide tried and tested advice. There are very few books curated to address such issues, especially for employees. Founderology does a great job at what it set out to do. Pick this book up to understand workplace relationships, and how to use that in your favor.

It seems like in today’s day and age, startups and new founders are getting more common. This means, the chances that you might work in a startup or with a new founder are getting higher, and working in such an environment is not the same as working in a well-established big company. So, as an employee, what should you expect? Kathleen has consulted many employees who have worked with founders and through years of experience, she shares in this book what exactly to expect from working with a founder. You will understand the patterns that the founder goes through and how this can affect the relationship with the employees. One day the founder is excited, the other day is scared… so it is a roller coaster. What you will understand is that it is important NOT to take things personally. This book is meant for employees, but I also found that it is also very helpful for founders as well, as this book will help the founder look at the employees’ situation, from the employees’ point of view. Empathy can be developed from the employees to the founder and vice versa. This book is the employee’s guide to understand their boss and succeed in the workplace.

I've been so fortunate to have some amazing bosses in my career, but I have definitely had some challenging ones. Thankfully, I've seen a progression to more compassionate leadership over time, but still, not everyone got the memo 🤷🏼‍♀️

So what do you do if it seems you're not good enough and failing to measure up? You get this book.

Bosses are human (I know, sometimes it doesn't seem that way) so understanding how they tick is so important.

If you have a boss, get this book. If you are a boss, get this book! It'll give you remarkable insights.

I’m a founder and started multiple companies. In total I’ve employed way over 1000 people. So I found this book particularly interesting as it has a employee’s perspective to working with a founder and doing a carrier in a startup - even if you can’t generalize neither founders as well as startups. I think there are amazing opportunities in startups for employees but it’s fit sure a challenging environment too. Recommend this book for both employees looking for a carrier in a startup as well as for founders to gain broader perspective.

I actually had the chance to meet Kathleen Wood on a business venture and ended up getting a signed copy from the author as soon as it was published. There are few people better equipped to write such a book as Kathleen, and her background has allowed her to work with, for and to observe multiple entrepreneurs at varying stages of success. This book is the compendium of that knowledge.

I grew up working in the world of the tech startup, dealing with entrepreneurs who were, at times, far out of their depth. Sometimes the first day on the job was full of promise, sometimes the day was already pretty cloudy and the horizon bleak. I wish I had a resource like this to study before having entered into those business situations.

The Founder's ego is something that is often hard to get past. By definition, founders are visionaries. Sometimes, though, that vision is tunnel-vision and is detrimental to the company and to its employees. However, the goal of any employee should be to help the company grow and thereby benefit directly from such growth. Too many employees, however, see this as an "us vs them" relationship instead of using creative psychology to build the relationship with a founder team and birth a positive future. Wood shows you, in very concise, simple language, how to do just that.

There's something in this book for everyone. That's a natural cliche in a book review, but 99 percent of us have had to hold down a job at some point and we don't always work directly for entrepreneurs. However, there are strategies here that can be easily applied to almost every supervisor-employee relationship. I keep using that word, "relationship," because that's one of Wood's key points - you are building relationships, not simply "going to work." Relationships take time, investment, and care. You'll be happy, sad, angry and frustrated at times. How you choose to handle those moments will dictate your future and this book helps you to maximize your relationship.

The goal of any employee is typically self-development and profit. Profit comes in many forms - time off, monetary rewards, promotions, job satisfaction - but none of those come if the relationship with Founders (or supervisors) is constantly one of friction.

This book is an instruction manual on how to build a positive professional life and I desperately wish I had this book at age 20 instead of age 50.

Founderology by Kathleen Wood
The Ultimate Employee Guide. Succeed with Any Boss in Any Workplace.

I loved this quote: Founders must decide in moments of crisis to view them as danger or as a unique opportunity for change and improvement.”

Kathleen Wood, advisor and founder of (Kathleen Wood Partners): “Business is Hard We make it simple,” has advised and coached founders, employees, and hundreds of companies to maximize their achievements.

The topic of “Founders” was new for me. I’ve never worked for a founder before, but as someone who’s worked in the retail/customer service department and know many who are currently working in that field, this book helped me understand why so many people quit their jobs. It’s also my first book on explaining founders roles, goals, mentalities, work ethics, expectations, and ways egos get in the way.

The stories that Kathleen Wood shares sounded familiar to me on why people quit. I had not deeply thought about this before, and now have an emphasized understanding that after not feeling acknowledged, noticed, or appreciated, people quit. This makes sense in many life situations.

I found it interesting to read a book about working with a “Founder” and the importance of having a “We” versus “Me” attitude, and learning to being more alert and in touch with your work environment.

The book shares 5 “Founderology Frameworks” that teach: Situations and stories, Understanding Founder’s mindsets, Opportunities to thrive, Tips for success such as what to stop doing and to start doing; and a cool section called “Woodism” that the author shares inspiring quotes. Also 10 “Suceess Practices.” Which my favorite in the book was the differences in a “healthy ego” and an “unhealthy ego.”

Let me share some examples:
(Healthy Ego VS Unhealthy Ego).

-Seeks to understand. -Stops seeking input.
-Is open to feedback. -Ignored feedback/data.
-Encourages discussion. -Uses power to shut people down.

I liked this because ”ego” is often portrayed as bad, but his helps the reader know the differences in attitudes to be better aware of the founder they’re working with.

I enjoyed this book because it shares a whole lot information about founders I never knew or had read about before.

Kathleen Wood's book Founderology tackles a unique workplace dynamic: Employees working directly for a Founder.

Working for a founder is a very specific challenge, because founders are NOT typical people. But for all the challenges, Kathleen makes the case that it is worth the effort, summed up in this quote:

"I believe working with Founders is a rare and special career opportunity. The specialness and uniqueness of it can be lost if you don't know how to succeed with any Founder in any workplace...I do know this and have said it a million times: working with a Founder is a true career gift."

And so Founderology helps address the contentions that arise between these two types of people that are so different.

Kathleen says "Don't ask a unicorn to be a horse." This is a philosophy that I greatly appreciate: Founders are difficult because they are extraordinary; you can't expect an ordinary workplace. And so you have to take some responsibility for finding a way that works for both sides of the relationship.

Note that Kathleen draws a line at founders who have gone overboard and become abusive - this is not the type of "unique" that we're making room for.

What Founderology does is help you find the RHYTHM of your founder, working with them and not against them. Here are a few specific points that are covered:

🔹 Ego: Founders have an ego - sometimes healthy, sometimes unhealthy. There IS room for tolerance of an unhealthy ego, and there's a lot of advice here on how to navigate that situation.

🔹 Expectations: Most founders perform at 200% effort, and can be disappointed by their employees' 100% effort - another frustrating situation that can be made to work rather than feeling like you aren't up for this career.

🔹 Growth: Some founders want to start companies but not run them at a large scale, and so they sell. As an employee in this situation, fear not! There are smart ways to navigate the company outgrowing its founder.

I haven't come across another book that is such a strong resource for employees who work for founders. If you find yourself with such an opportunity, Founderology might be the guide that saves your career. Well worth the read!

Are you working? On scale of 1-10, how much you like your boss/manager?

For me, honestly I quit my job because of my manager. I didn't like the fact of being overlooked despite of working literally day and night to keep my project up and running.

When I felt like I can't take it any more, I went ahead and quit, before I loose my sanity. Well, I'm not here to complain about that now, but I do know from my experience, that everyone face one or other kind of trouble in their workplace.

Some are brave enough to fight, some just notify, some simply observe and let it go and some just keep quiet. Doesn't matter in which catagory you fit, I believe every working person can learn a thing or two from this book.

"No matter how much I work, my boss seems to be never happy." The sentence is way too common nowadays.

This book is all about how to handle your work life, how to work with your boss, how to succeed and grow in your career. No more, "No matter how much I work, my boss never seems to be happy" situations. Because this book, help you learn how to overcome that.

This book "Founderology", introduces us with 5 step framework. Even the main focus of this book is, how to work with founder's being boss, I found the principles relevant to every general workplace.

Here's the framework;

1. Founderology Reality — Situations, Scenarios,
and Stories

2. Find Your Sanity— Understanding a Founder’s
Mindset

3. Embrace Your Genius—Your Opportunity to
Thrive

4. Love Your Journey - Stop and Start Tips for
Success

5. Woodism— Kathleen Wood’s Version of Pearls of
Wisdom

Apart from this, it also talks about various success practices and how we can implement them in our work life, like;

✓ Healthy ego vs Unhealthy ego.
✓ Boss wiring vs Employee wiring.
✓ Boss mindset vs Corporate mindset.
✓ Good, bad and ugly energy juices.
✓ Behaviour Rollercoasters
✓ Extraordinary Gap

Overall, the book talks about various factors which weigh in to make the workplace healthy, happy and growing. If you are looking to handle your work-life better, do give this book a try.

A lot of people think they hate their jobs. They ask themselves, "Why am I working here?" or "What is my purpose in doing this job?"
The truth is, you're probably working for a Founder, Business Owner, Boss, Entrepreneur, or any other highly driven, never satisfied leader.
Then This book is for you.

Founderology, a people's book, provides employees with tools and insights to realign themselves with the vision of their bosses and become better at their jobs. Founderology provides strategies to:
1. Know the vision,
2. Align with the vision of your Boss,
3. Understand why your Boss acts and reacts in a certain way,
4. Be able to proactively tailor your communication style to the Boss,
5. Understand how to stand out and shine as an employee.

“Never forget where you came from, and never forget the people who got you there.”

For Employees, this can feel like that founder moves out in front, and the employees move back in. The founder becomes famous. The employees return to being anonymous.

Kathleen Wood brings real world solutions to your situation and her guidance allows you to navigate your Boss’s insatiable pursuit of perfection and have developed an easy-to-follow how-to framework to maximize the understanding and application of each successful practice.

There are plenty of books that cater to current and aspiring startup founders but this guide focuses on how employees can maximize their own happiness, productivity, and success in a company. It teaches them how to think about work differently than they have been taught to think about work, how to increase their opportunities at work, how to reflect on why they like their work, how to understand their own and others strengths and weaknesses, and how to work with strengths rather than weaknesses.

Take control of your career happiness and succeed with your Boss – it’s never been easier with Founderology.

When it comes to corporate world we have formed an image of job dissatisfaction, bosses and employees misunderstanding and a hectic schedule working hours.

Now, we started questioning to ourself why we are doing this job. Most of us are living in the same skin. If you are one amongst from us then this book is for you.

Founderology shows the critical vices that generally occurs in our corporate life but it doesn't stop here, it provides a competent understanding to fix all these things. It has deep insights about holding vision and values to work in a healthy environment.

How we can drive our good ego to maintain our relationship with founder or boss of our institution. I love the concept of becoming "we" from "me" and about the successful work life balance.

Kathleen Wood has created positive momentum.
There are five founderology framework.

1. Founderology Reality
2. Find your sanity
3. Embrace your genius
4. Love your journey
5. Woodies ( my favorite)

As sometimes it becomes hard to align with the vision with the company/institution founder, there this book helps us to understand how to form vision and align with accordingly.

The behaviour which we reflects in our working hour is sometimes unexpected and we want to proceed in our own way but the scene os totally different. We have to form and understand the founders view and have to work on it precedently.

I have been through so many great examples where it belongs to employees and bosses reaction that reflects their growth but if they get out of their alignment it becomes tough to grow and yield our productivity in right direction.
This book is purely a gem as the author has two decades of experience in mentoring the employees.

I would love to recommend this book to all the enterpreneurs and corporate office holder to become a leader in your insignia of corporate world.

Book : Founderology
Author : Kathleen Wood
Rating : 5/5💫

My Review :-

We all have entrepreneurship in our minds. In one or the other way we are founders of our own lives and tasks. But aren’t we all looking for proper channels to focus our energy and tasks? Well, we have this book mainly meant for the people who have it in them. The founders.
Title : The title conveys the readers about the hint of in-depth conversation with the founders in making. We all have been aware of the term ‘logy’ that means study of , hence the name comes. This is a learning book for founders.
Narration : It isn’t easy for us to start anything new that generates revenue. So, what is needed for the founders that can also be a plus point for the people who are the authorities also. Sometimes any skillset , energy and hard work gets unnoticed or unfruitful , how to learn new methodologies of leadership. Should there be a differentiation of ‘We’or ‘Me’ with the people?
The book mentions the importance of not to forget the roots of the people in the company or of the founder himself/herself.
Also, is perfectionism a syndrome or an attitude? Should it intervene the way the work culture is? How should it be imparted to the people of the company? How Founders can align to the perfectionism without damaging the quality of the work.
The book busts some myths and reality of the concept of founders. There is a lot of misconceptions and incorrect information that runs in the minds of the people, this book comes as clarity for many of us. This book is very interactive and readers can learn a lot from the use cases and case studies that are mentioned in this book. This helps to boost the confidence of the people who are into venturing entrepreneurship.
Do read the book and get inspired.

Some people are capable of being happy and productive at their job because they find their passion, doing what they truly love. For others, those opportunities may be more difficult to attain, but that doesn't mean one can't still take pride in and love what they do. Those people are professionals who find ownership in their work and excel through a combination of aptitude and attitude. In this book, the author details the personal stops along her own journey, pointing out how she eventually became an "founder" professional.

Teaching others the mental perspectives and values that will allow them to attain the same level of healthy ego and personal growth the author has experienced, this book offers appropriate ways and avenues for creating new opportunities and satisfying changes in the goals. Kathleen's history as a successful founder is evident throughout her inspiring and concisely written guide, which offers a wide variety of targeted goals for creating a vision.

By the end of this book, readers should have a precise idea of how to implement these ideas no matter what field they work or desire to work in. Written in clear, concise language and using examples that are relatable to anybody who has spent any time in the workforce, this is a useful tool for resetting ruts and tired ways of thinking and turning any career into a chance to excel and becoming the founder or how to work with a founder.

Readers who make the commitment to set aside just a few hours to take in his knowledge and proven advice, will no doubt find the motivation they need to build a successful and personally satisfying culture.

I have worked with one of the startup founder myself so reading this book was a very nice time for me. Author Kathleen has gone in depth in the concept of employee and founder relationship. In this book you will get to know how the mood of the founder can change the whole company future.
When it comes to the founder his every decision and his every move decides the faith of the company. A single bad move from the founder can make disasters to the company. If you are the one who is going to or want to work under the founder then you must read this book.
This book will help you understand how you can give your best when you are working with the founder. It will tell you all the Pros and Cons of working with the founder. It will teach you all about how to use both the pros and cons as your personal asset to grow as an employee.
Apart from this author also focuses on how you can be the key player in the company by understanding the founder because in many companies the employees are not able to understand the vision of the founder.
Every point explained by the author in this book is written to tell you how you can convert yourself from a simple employee to an amazing employee or most valuable employee.

Kathleen Wood is a renowned growth strategist who has spent more than 20 years assisting Founders and Employees in the building of successful organisations via optimization and leadership development.
I've lately read and evaluated a number of business and leadership books, but I've seldom encountered a book intended for employees. This is an excellent book that will assist employees in comprehending the founders' thinking. This book teaches us that our bosses do not provide commands to their staff, but rather trust and obligations.
I loved the Framework of the book that has been divided into 5 steps-
1)Founderology Reality-Situations, Scenarios, and Stories
2)Find Your Sanity-Understanding a Founder's Mindset
3)Embrace Your Genius-Your Opportunity to Thrive
4)Love Your Journey - Stop and Start Tips for Success
5)Woodism-Kathleen Wood's Version of Pearls of Wisdom
The writing style is smooth and engaging with reader friendly language. The strategies shared by the author are very impressive and helpful. This book will make you satisfied and productive if you are an employee. It will help you grow and improve in too many levels and will make things simple and easy for you. Highly recommended from my side especially if you are employee.

Do you have a 9 to 5 job or do you work under a boss? No, this book isn’t about quitting your job and following your passion. It is almost the opposite of it. Suppose, you love your job and want to do well in it but due to some reason, everything is running against you. What do you do? Pick up this book, read it and start implementing all the practical strategies mentioned in this.

Succeed with any boss in any workplace and this is exactly what this book talks about from beginning to the end. No matter if you started on the wrong foot or something is not working out. There is something for everyone. I especially liked one chapter about riding the rollercoaster and how the ups, downs and sideways affect everyone at the workplace.

This is an incredible and compact read. It comes in handy and will solve your day to day workplace problems and even help you get better in the long term period. Irrespective of what sector do you work in, this is an essential commodity for you. The author has done a commendable job with the book. I loved it. Extremely helpful. I 100% recommend it. MUST BUY.

Founderology is a book dedicated completely for employees seeking validation at work, better work-life balance and for understanding the best practices to succeed in with any boss in any work pace.

Often an employee feels undervalued when his/her work remains unnoticed by the manager/boss/founder. This in turn leads to resentment. Being well-versed with such situations, the author has put together her real-life lessons and practical advices to help us grow and shine in a founder led work-place.

The author has shared an easy-to-follow framework for maximizing our success. These frameworks are intended to create a positive momentum at our workplace. Another interesting and useful insight is the comparison that the author has drawn on various grounds. Some of them are shared below:

1. Healthy Ego vs Unhealthy Ego
2. Founder’s Wiring vs Employee’s Wiring
3. Founder Mindset vs Corporate Mindset
4. Founder’s behavioral rollercoaster
5. Founder’s Perspective vs Employee’s Perspective

I personally believe this book can help someone who is going to start his/her job and to the ones who have already been working. The book is easy to understand and implement.

As an employee, it always looks like founders just wanna get mad rich and that's why they demand so much from us. However, it's never that simple. It's just an easy escape from actually understanding what drives these founders and how we can help them achieve their goals while also maintaining our sanity.

FOUNDEROLOGY is the ultimate guide for employees to understand the heart of a founder. To understand what drives them and why they do what they do.

In this book, author Kathleen Wood helps the reader cultivate a positive attitude about the founders by helping us align our vision with theirs. She provides a framework to help us understand the reality of founders and how we can become an important member of the team while also maintaining a sense of sanity and work life balance.

When I started working last year, I thought my boss was just crazy and greedy. However, this book helped me understand why he's so hard on us and expects so much from his employees.

If you're someone who works for a company where the founder plays a crucial role, this is a must read book!

If you like reading books about startups and entreprenuership, you can easily find books about every facets of founding a new business.

If you want to read about how to become a great founder, there's a ton of books dealing that. If you are a solo founder and are lokking to hire your employee #1, there are great books on that already.

If you haven't noticed, one aspect is being left out - that is how to be a successful employee in a startup or new business.

This book is just about that. This is a startup from an employee perspective. This is a complete guide for becoming successful with a founder as your boss.

There are three (3) main themes in this book:

* Finding Your Sanity
* Embrace Your Journey
* Love Your Journey

One of the many interesting sections in this book goes like this: "Are You Working For A Founder Asshole Or A Brilliant Genius?"

If you are just thinking about joining a startup in any stage, you might be interested in this book. And if you have just started a job under a Founder, then you are the specific audience of this book!

This book is all about how to handle your work life, succeed and grow. This book introduces us to a 5 step framework. Let me share each:

1. Founderology Reality — which is about — Situations, Scenarios,
and Stories
2. Find Your Sanity — which is about — Understanding a Founder’s
Mindset
3. Embrace Your Genius — which is about — Your Opportunity to
Thrive
4. Love Your Journey — which is about — Stop and Start Tips for
Success
5. Woodism — which is about — Kathleen Wood’s Version of Pearls of
Wisdom

What I found the most interesting in the book is the comparison between various success practices such as healthy and unhealthy ego, corporate mindset and founder mindset, and more. After finishing the book, the readers should be filled with ideas about how they can implement the learnings in their work and even personal life.

The final words for the book would be... it is an awesome and useful read for anyone who is trying to how to succeed in corporate life. The author has covered almost all aspects one needs to keep in mind for a healthy work environment.

In short, this book explains how it is possible to thrive working in a startup, even if it’s not much structured or if the vision of the founder is not clear yet.

It gives employees lots of strategies on how to collaborate efficiently with founders in this kind of environment and find a shared vision of success.

However, I see that there is a lot of generalization about founders in this book.

For example, the author wrote ‘’Founders don’t want to be wrong - or at least don’t want to accept that they can make mistakes’’.

I do not agree with this. Yes, some (or a lot) of founders can be close-minded, but I know that there are lots of them that are very open to feedback.
Yes, everything explained in this book is very valuable, I just don’t agree with the generalization.

This book was written mainly to help employees succeed in the workplace, but I think that founders should read it too.
They will know exactly what not to do and why being open to feedback and clear about their vision is so important.

There are so many books out there that focus on starting your own business or becoming a better boss. However, there are few, if any, books that talk about becoming a better employee. In Founderology, Kathleen lays out a road map for how to be successful while working for a founder. I have been an employee working for a founder, and now I am a founder myself. Founderology does an amazing job of being insightful, whether you are the employee working for a founder or you are the founder yourself. Kathleen dives into the psychology of different types of founders and shows how human nature plays a critical role in how founders are likely to behave in various situations. Kathleen uses countless examples and scenarios to make her points while also providing actionable steps to take to achieve the desired results. Each chapter also has Start and Stop takeaways at the end of each chapter which does a great job of summarizing the key points.
