When Orac picks up information about a Clone Master living in secret on an outlying planet, Blake is intrigued.
Then, a message from the freed bond-slave, Rashel, makes visiting the outpost a priority: the Blake Clone is dying. But things are never as straightforward as they seem, and with psycho-strategist Carnell lurking in the shadows, this visit soon becomes a life or death battle for all the Liberator crew…
Trevor Baxendale is a novelist who has penned several Doctor Who tie-in novels and audio dramas. He lives in Liverpool, England with his wife and two children.
In a novel which is both a sequel to the recent Big Finish audio spinoff "The Clone Masters" and the original TV series B episode "Weapon", Trevor Baxendale has not only perfectly captured the atmosphere of that era of the show but enhanced it, the mind's eye giving the story the budget it deserves and the overall arc of the series itself more room to breathe.
The characterisation of the regulars is spot on – and Glynis Barber's reading leaves you in no doubt as to who is speaking, in particular her impressions of Avon and Jenna have the tone and phrasing just right without resorting to impersonating Paul Darrow and Sally Knyvette.
The plot is engaging and racks up the tension in just the right way, surprising the listener in all the right places.
