Jedrek and the Pirate Princess: By David Littlewood
This book took me back to my childhood, as it was reminiscent of the many fairy tales I used to read as a kid. When a childless blacksmith couple finds a baby hidden near their home, they take the child in and raise him as their own. They know that there is something unusual about him, and they feel that one day, he will be destined to do something extraordinary. Several years later, a mysterious traveller visits them and tells them a story. The couple doesn’t want to believe it, but they have to accept that Jedrek will become a Dragon-slayer. He learns that there is a legendary land believed to hold large amounts of enchanted gold. The inhabitants are held under a spell. The entire village is asleep until someone can break the incantation. Jedrek also discovers that there is a girl who needs to be rescued from the wizard before it’s too late. Jedrek sets out on his quest and finds himself in some risky situations. A pirate Princess befriends him and helps him to find the island. But if he takes a ship full of pirates with him, who can he really trust? This book is great for both boys and girls. Jedrek and the Princess are both strong, likeable characters, and the story is fast moving and a real page-turner. I would highly recommend this book for all children with a taste for adventure, magic and fun.
Jedrek and the Pirate Princess is really a children's story, but I personally loved reading about the adventures of Jedrek and his pirate and hisq pirate princess, Amara. As I'm nearing my 68th birthday that makes it a great read for anyone of any age, who enjoys tales of magic, an enchanted sword, dragons and an evil wizard. It's a super, swahbuckling tale well written and exciting from beginning to end. 5 stars from me!
