Migraine and Mia
Mia lives with chronic migraine. Did you know it's so much more than just a headache? Migraine often makes Mia's body feel like a full-on pain parade with a marching band behind her eyeballs! Sometimes she even sees dots, stripes, and a whole kaleidoscope of colors. While migraine really is no fun at all, there are small ways friends and family can help when one strikes.
Written with humor and pizzazz, Migraine and Mia is the perfect way to educate children about this often-misunderstood health condition and what they can do to better support those who live with it.

October 28, 2022This was absolutely fantastic and I'm so glad this book exists.
I'm always on the search for more books featuring characters with migraine or books about migraine because it's so important and this book is fantastic for both of those categories. I'm always astonished at how little representation this gets in books especially given how many people get them worldwide (myself included).
In this book, Mia gets chronic migraines and this book emphasizes how migraine isn't just a headache. It walks you through what life is like for someone with chronic migraines, and one thing I loved in particular is that it generalized the experience and discussed what variations could be and not what the experience is like for everyone because it's not the same for every person. The illustrations were absolutely brilliant as well and really brought everything to life.
This was definitely an important book and it's one I will definitely revisit in the future.

You will fall in love with Mia, a spunky ,inspiring girl who battles chronic migraine. Award winning author Kat Harrison's masterful use of metaphors and imagery help those fortunate to not experience migraines understand what those that do experience them face on a daily basis. Talented illustrator Marusha Belle's use of soft, yet vivid colors and patterns bring Harrison's words further to life. The second half of Mia's story focuses on the things friends and family members can do to help someone who is living with migraines. This book is not only for readers who have migraines or are close to someone who does, it is truly for anyone who wants to give and obtain the gift of empathy.

What a beautiful thing to have a book like this for children. it doesn’t matter if it’s you or your child or someone you know that suffers from migraines. This book will use exciting writing and gorgeous illustrations to help kids understand what it feels like to have them in a way that makes sense to them, how to help someone who is having one, and even a resource page to let them know they’re not alone. An absolute necessity to have as a resource if you work with children in any capacity!

This gem of a book validates the experiences of those (especially kids) who live with migraine, and it also raises awareness for this condition, while helping to foster empathy in readers young and old.
