This book was originally written in 1948. It is about 400 pages long and split into two parts, His Life and His Works, with His Life being a 100 page biography of Hoffmann and His Works a 300 page critical study of all of Hoffmann's works. Maybe because I really only wanted a biography I found that much more interesting than the criticism. I'm not really a fan of literary criticism but this was probably more tedious than most as Hewett-Thayer seems to not really say much of interest. So, worth it for the biography, as there isn't much available for the English reader, but the rest is quite dull.
