When a little boy formed from ice leaves his cave for a whaling ship, his chilly touch freezes the hearts of the captain and all who come near, so disembarking, the boy finds himself at a village festival and meets a girl with her own magic, in an imaginative parable about coming to terms with your own identity.
This is a story about a young boy made of ice. He is "cold-hearted". Throughout the story, after the boy freezes the whole town, he meets a young girl that has a high fever and is unable to be frozen. She warms his heart and melts the ice away. This is a cute story and would be great to use with phases of water. I would use this book with younger students, k-2.
This story is about a child who lives by himself in a cave who is made of ice who saves the daughter of a captain of a ship from dying.
I would use this story to introduce the differnt forms or matter for physical science. This topic is covered in 5th grade so I would have the students read the story and write down all the differnt times matter changes phases in the story.
This book could be used with a 5th grade class to get them thinking more about the phases of matter in the engage portion of a 5E lesson about that topic.
