The Americans purchase some old Russian Subs and retrofit them like carrier craft, launching and transporting personal one man subs. The Japanese are the enemy this time. I remember liking the book but I read it in high school so it is a little vague.

This was the only sequel to the book 'Sharuq' by Bill Keith. Not sure why the series stopped at two.
