Duncan and Crystal were high school sweethearts before Duncan left for the Navy. When he returns to visit after four years, Crystal has a daughter. Crystal never told Duncan. When Dakota is kidnapped by a supposed friend, the truth comes out. Will he be able to get to Dakota during the hurricane? This was a fast read that kept me flipping the pages to see what was going to happen next. Be prepared for some steamy scenes, lol. Grab your copy and see if Duncan doesn’t melt your heart.
This was a great read. Loving, heartwarming, very touching. Duncan and Crystal we’re together in high school and when he left to become a seal he had no idea what he was leaving behind. Crystal has moved on and having Dakota to raise she been her whole life but when she goes missing Crystal is beside herself, little did she know that’s Duncan was coming home and coming back for her and what’s going to happen when he finds out her secret? Will Duncan do whatever it takes to find Dakota and bring her home to them? No spoilers, so good, loved it! I voluntarily reviewed this book.
This was a step away from Alexis Abbott's bad boy, mafia, hitman books. This is a second chance military romance book. I loved it! Duncan is an all around good guy, he is smart, protective and has a sense of honor about him. Crystal is smart, resourceful and adjust to her circumstances. Bring these two together it's heartwarming. In my opinion this could have been very boring story, but Alexis Abbott brought in a hurricane that created all sorts of havoc and suspense. So the suspense that you usually get from the bad boys was from a bad boy hurricane named Bruno. In my opinion did a pretty good job of portraying the hurricane and the mess they make. Alexis Abbott kept me on the edge of my seat turning the pages. In my opinion I think Alexis Abbott did a good job of stepping away from her comfort zone. I voluntarily read an reviewed an advance readers copy.
Drama, suspense, danger, a kidnapping, hot chemistry, plenty of heat, a captivating storyline, well-developed characters, love... everything I love in an edge of your seat, action-packed, second chance romance story.
I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.
Great read with a crazy storm, a sexy seal and reunited lovers. Crystal & Duncan were HS sweethearts but once Duncan left to become a seal they fell apart. Coming back home Duncan only wants to see Crystal but gets an even bigger surprise.
This was quite an engaging story and while I did enjoy reading it, I can understand some of the more negative vibes from other reviewers. The beginning of the book let it down somewhat, but as the story progressed it became more interesting and packed quite a punch. Not a typically gritty book from this author, but nevertheless worth a read.
Crystal was only 18-years old when she had Dakota, but the experience taught her how to be self-sufficient. As a middle-class, young single unwed mother in Kitty Hawk, Crystal now runs a successful daycare center. Duncan had never been a part of Dakota’s life because Crystal never told him he had a daughter. All Crystal wanted was for Duncan to be happy and successful and to live the daring, risk-taking lifestyle he always dreamed of; in no way would she be the cause of Duncan not realizing his ambitions. After working as a Navy SEAL for the past four years, Duncan is taking some personal time off; he intends to surprise Crystal, but will she see the same man she fell for all those years ago. The arrival of Tropical Storm Bruno makes Duncan’s journey hazardous, but when the storm is upgraded to a hurricane Duncan begins to fear for Crystal’s safety. As an experienced Navy SEAL, as well as someone familiar with the area, Duncan is able to put his training to good use. Regardless of whether or not he is on leave, he is still a Navy SEAL and if anyone is equipped to handle a situation like this, it is him; his reputation precedes him. Along the way, Duncan meets other people that require his help and he has no intention of abandoning them. Duncan is here to rescue Crystal even though she doesn’t understand why or how, but it is not just her; she is looking after four terrified little children. While Duncan makes arrangements to ensure the other three children are reunited with their parents, Jake, a neighbor, agrees to look after Crystal and Dakota while he is gone. Inseparable in high school, seeing Jake and Crystal together at the same time is like a blast from the past in so many ways. But Jake eventually shows his true colors; finally he has Crystal alone and vulnerable. Crystal cannot believe it; the man she has known since high school, Duncan’s own best friend, her neighbor, the sweet, popular, quiet man who tagged along on a lot of their teenage adventures has turned out to be a viper in disguise and she never saw it coming. All this time she thought she was safe. As Crystal and Duncan race against time, the storm is not their only adversary; there are other more deadly obstacles standing in their way. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
>Book Review – Sweetheart for the Seal >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 1st in the Sexy SEALs series and ends in an HEA. Duncan and Crystal are high school sweethearts who broke up after high school. He went into the SEALs and she was going to go to college, until a surprise pregnancy derailed her plans. Now 4 years later, Crystal hasn’t told Duncan he was a father to a little girl, Dakota. >This story starts out with action and goes non-stop to the end. Duncan tries to get to Crystal during Hurricane Bruno on the outer banks of North Carolina. The descriptions of the weather were scary, but so were the descriptions of the looters. There is a stalker in the story that uses the hurricane to take advantage and try to get to Crystal. >Duncan is the ultimate alpha male. He deals with every situation with absolute confidence. I felt the day care kids were developed too much for the small part they played in the story. I would have liked more scenes with Duncan and Dakota. The one main scene between them takes place on the helicopter. If you’ve ever been on a helicopter, you would know that no conversations could occur without headsets. The whole “I’m your dad” discussion could not have happened as written. This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 4 stars.
This is a beautiful story about high school sweethearts Duncan and Crystal who move on separately after high school. Duncan goes into the military working hard and is a Seal. Crystal is surprised prior to going away to school with a pregnancy she keeps and becomes a single mother. All the decisions she makes are for others and she ends up having a daycare in her home. While Duncan is on his last mission her realizes that after 4 years he needs to go back home and see if there is anything still special between him and Crystal. Once he arrives there is a storm which gets upgraded to different category as the story goes on. Duncan ends up helping with getting the kids to the National Guard and things fall apart for Crystal with an old high school friend going off the deep end. Crystal and Duncan end up sticking together to find what’s lost and along the way they help an older couple in need. Duncan shows you that an everyday man who is a Seal can not go crazy with woman. These two love one another and Duncan hopes he is not too late to save his family from the storm and the craziness of an old friend. I really enjoyed the ending on what the characters do to move on! I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
A fast paced full of action read between Duncan, SEAL who comes home after 4 years to track down his love, Crystal. He left right after graduation leaving her behind but he hasn’t forgotten her and now after an intense mission, he needs to see her. Crystal hasn’t forgotten about Duncan, she has reminder everyday in the form of his daughter, Dakota, a daughter he doesn’t know about. When he arrives in their small town, it’s not as easy as he thought to reconnect...there’s a storm, threat of looters and a man who was his best friend does the unthinkable...can they both survive and get their HEA. A great fast paced steamy read with suspense and danger and I couldn’t get over Duncan, a sweetheart of a SEAL. I loved how there was no drama between these two and how they buckle down and do what needs to be done. I also liked the fact that no other women were mentioned and that he was not a man wh***. I liked that the sparks were still there between them, there was no hesitation where their relationship was concerned and the action was intense at times. A read that was hard to put down and an epilogue that made me smile from ear to ear. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
This book is an action, suspense romance first, and a secret baby romance second, in my opinion. The book starts out with the action and suspense, as Duncan, a Navy Seal, is in the Colombian jungle, attacking the estate of a drug lord, to bring him to justice. From there, he decides to take some time off, and go to the beautiful, beaches of his hometown on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. What a difference, at least that is what you expect. As he comes to town to see Crystal, that he left four years ago, when he enlisted, and we have the part about the secret baby, you are thinking that now, the book will be more like the usual secret baby romance, but not so, not with a book by Alexis Abbott. Now, there is even more action and suspense, as the beautiful calm, of the Outer Banks is hit by a deadly hurricane, and tornadoes, and there is a kidnapping, looters, and a dangerous motorcycle gang. Yes, not your traditional secret baby romance. Being from North Carolina, this made the book more special to me, but it is not why I gave it five stars. That all has to do with the oustanding writing, and wonderful story from beginning to end. Due to this, I highly recommend this book.
If I could I would rate it with no star. If you want a realistic military book -- this is NOT it!! Watching three episodes of the TV show SEAL Team (this is a metaphor, I am not even sure if she put that much time into this topic) is not enough to write a book about the Navy. Obviously, this author has NO idea what she is writing about. Not mentioning the writing style (if I read one more time from a grown man to say "I chuckled" I am going to flip). BUT... the reason this was a 50% DNF for me is: the hero is a 22-year-old Navy SEAL (I mean bravo on that first!) but to have the rank of "Master Chief Petty Officer" at that age is just not believable. MCPO is one of the highest ranks in the Navy. Just to make it a CPO (two ranks lower than MCPO) it takes about 13 years of service (you need to be really good to make it in 8 and a megastar to do it under 6), but here we have this young hotshot to be in a senior rank at 22. What a load of bull!! There is no proper research on the structure of this military branch at all, how it works and what does it take to advance in it. It is almost an insult to the Navy and the sweat and blood our sailors shed in it and to the readers who are so unlucky to suffer this nonsense. Please, stick to topics you have an experience with.
The characters are just adorable. Crystal, handling her single mom life as best as she can, all caring and welcoming for her day care kids and her little precious daughter Dakota, yet tough and wise beyond her years… Dakota is a sweet little cutie, tough as nails and just as badass as her mother… And then there is this hunk of a man, picture perfect in every possible way… Duncan, SEAL, hero, devoted and passionate man, former high school sweetheart of Crystal… a dreamboat…
This book is breathtakingly thrilling beyond anything I have read for a long time! Nightmarish parts alternate with lighter ones at breakneck speed, making me gasp for air and my heart beat in my throat not only once! And there hardly is a break to take a deep breath and calm down… I felt drawn in with the first few lines and was captivated till the end, although some parts seemed to be a little implausible (the speedy upgrading of this hurricane, the already accomplished career goals of Duncan despite his young age...). But that did not detract from the story. There is no way you can stop reading once you started this book. It is a page turner and another must read by Alexis Abbott!
Jake’s dream was to become a SEAL and make the world a better place. High school sweetheart Crystal supported that decision so did not tell Jake when she found out she was carrying his child. A sweet (and sexy) romance of two people who cannot forget their “first love” and how they work to come back together. Mother Nature has other plans as this all happens during a Cat 4-5 hurricane!
The intruder is frighteningly tall and broad-shouldered, and I can positively feel the raw strength emanating from him. I reflexively curl up and shield myself with my arms as he intruder slams the door shut and rushes over to me. - - - “Crystal?” asks the man in a low, deep almost reverent tone. The voice is so intimately familiar. But at first I disregards that, since it doesn’t make sense. - - - “Duncan?” I mummer breathlessly, unable to believe my eyes. He nods and pulls me into his arms….
A friend who is more than he seems, flooding, tornados, looters and a span of four years all work against this young couple who could never move away from their early relationship.
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
Crystal had a bad feeling about the storm and it was right when it turned into a hurricane, her only thought to keep the children safe. Thinking someone was trying to break in and going to scare them she didn’t expect to see Duncan. After making a plan to get the children to safety he returns to Crystal and Dakota, only Dakota has been taken. Not being able to do anything until the storm lessons, Duncan distracts Crystal, doing what he’s been wanting to do for the last four years, she was the one thing it hurt to leave the most and he wants her back. With the storm finally stopping they head to where they think Dakota is taken, not being able to resist anymore she tells Duncan that she’s he’s. Duncan is overwhelmed and amazed he has Crystal and a beautiful little girl, and Crystal explains why she didn’t tell him. Duncan lets her know that everything he learnt out there, made him realise he wanted to get back home to her. Although their happy they still have to find their daughter, with tornados coming up in town, and the bridge gone, will they find her in time, what else can go wrong now they finally have found each other again.
This story starts out with the two main characters Duncan and Crystal already knowing each other. They were high school sweethearts but Duncan joined the military not knowing that a Crystal was pregnant. Duncan just can’t wait to see her again after his mission is over.
Crystal now has a child care business and a young daughter that acts more like an adult. Duncan seems to be back in town at the right moment a storm is a brew and his family needs him most now. This story is not only a Secret Baby with a tropical storm and romance but their is a surprise danger an unexpected villain that think it has a claim to Crystal. I did not expect that this would happen in this story. It was an adrenaline rush from the beginning of the storm till the end. There is a few unrealistic things that Crystal and Duncan do that I definitely would not been able to even think about in their situation. But I would definitely suggest this story.
Duncan Anderson left his high school sweetheart heartbroken when he left for the military to realize his lifelong dream of becoming a Navy SEAL. Now after four long years of service he’s never forgotten the girl of his dreams and what he left behind. He’s determined to rekindle his relationship with Crystal once he gets a chance to land stateside. But a hurricane and a dangerous complication develop in his path to reunite with Crystal.
Crystal Miller is raising her daughter and making ends meet with her daycare business. She never expected a timely rescue from a hurricane when Duncan appears at her doorstep. When Duncan meets 3-year old Dakota, Duncan realizes why Crystal slowly let go of their relationship. Now that he’s found Crystal and their daughter, no way is he letting her go again.
This story has action and suspense, and a bit of romance. I received and voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
This story takes you on a journey with Duncan and Crystal, we learn about when they met, during high school, that Duncan went away 4 years prior with the Navy going onto becoming a SEAL
Crystal is a Childminder, looking after a few local children, along with her daughter Dakota.
When the Island Crystal lives on is suddenly hit by a big storm, it happens so quickly that she doesn't have time to evacuate so she holes up in her house with the children.
Crystal and Duncan, high school sweethearts, never really forgot about each other, I loved how their friendship was re-kindled whilst dealing with the safety of the children, throw into the mix a long term friend of them both with an ulterior motive...
They both needed to pull their resources whilst tacking other hurricane situations.
A great fairly quick read which kept your interest from the start to the end, their romance running throughout with the thrill and suspense of will they/wont they. Its quite fast paced.
I enjoyed this read. It was a fairly quick one for me. I read it in one sitting and enjoyed doing so. This book happens over a short period of time so things move quickly. Duncan is back on leave to see his high school sweetheart and shows up just in time for the hurricane. Crystal is running a daycare and has 4 kids there as the hurricane hits with little warning. Duncan shows up to the rescue, just in time. Things move quickly as things continue to happen to Duncan and Crystal. Duncan finds out in the midst of the chaos that he has a daughter with Crystal, and she has now been taken. This is a quick, action packed story as they battle the storm and people on their quest to rescue their daughter and stay safe in the storm. I thought it was well done and it was good entertainment. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
A very good read by Alexis. This book definitely had my heart racing, I loved the suspense of that storm and what would happen next for the characters. I really enjoyed that extra twist involving Dakota, it made for a much more interesting story. I loved the connection Duncan and Crystal had after all those years apart. I loved their interactions with each other along with other characters, especially Dakota. I absolutely adored Dakota and loved Crystal and Duncan right from the first page. I loved how the book started with Duncan on a mission, I liked knowing how he operated in tough situations right from the beginning. After reading the blurb, I knew I couldn’t wait to get a start on this. Although there were still some unanswered questions, for me, by the end of the book, it didn’t take away from how much I enjoyed reading it 4.5 stars
I received this book in advance for a voluntary honest review. As always I loved this new Alexis Abbott book. High school sweethearts, Duncan and Crystal, share one night of passion before Duncan ships out to the navy..his dream career. Shortly after Crystal learns she’s pregnant. Not wanting to destroy Duncan’s dream she decides not to tell him about the baby. Four years later Duncan has made a name for himself but he can’t forget the only woman he’s ever loved. Determined to find her and see where things go he finds himself in the middle of a massive hurricane looking for Crystal. When he finds her sparks fly. Friend turned enemy kidnaps their daughter and Crystal is forced to tell the truth. Together they must rescue their daughter, but can they become a family when the storm settles? Action, suspense, romance and one hot Navy Seal will have you hooked from page one.
I do not think this is Alexis' best work. I found the tropical storm to cat 5 hurricane scenario a little hard to swallow. Even the recent Hurricane Michael developed slower than that, and it was a surprise to everyone when it hit so hard. I also couldn't get past the sexual knowledge of two people who supposedly had had sex once. They also seemed to pick weird times and places to have this great sex, but maybe that is just me. The love story itself was ok, but there is a lot of drama in a short time. I also am not sure how he got his weapons on the plane he took for the last leg of his journey, but maybe there was packed luggage or something in that rental he gave away.
I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
Sweetheart for the SEAL is a fantastic second chance romance that really keeps you on your toes. This book is action packed from the very beginning right up to the last swoonworthy page. The chemistry between these two is smoking white hot and you can really feel the love these two have for each other. Kota is so cute with her grown up mind in a three year olds body and the way she dealt with everything and finding out who Duncan was. This story is really good and will have you binge reading it from cover to the end just like I've just done. You really need to one click this book as soon as you can.
Alexis you delivered another great story. So this Duncan and Crystal story so they were high school sweethearts, This story has it all from one big surprise, action to Drama, suspense, danger, plus a kidnapping, OMG sizzling hot chemistry thats off the charts. so can they reconnect after 4 years find what they once had or be a part forever well you just have to one-click now to find out. A must read, I voluntarily reviewed this book as a Advanced Reader Copy.
I know you see secret baby romance and think it’s the same old storyline. Well Alexis Abbott keeps the story action packed! This would make an amazing action / romance movie! This about two High School sweethearts Crystal and Duncan. Duncan had a dream of becoming a Seal and saving the world. Crystal loving him the way she does, never reveals being pregnant to Duncan so he can go out and fulfill his dream. Four years later he comes home to see Crystal. I’d love to say more but I recommend you read it for yourself! This book has multiple view points, so you get a good idea what’s going through Crystal and Duncan’s minds. I willingly received this book for an honest review.
I've read several books by this author and I have always enjoyed her books. The story line was really engaging and believable. I liked Duncan from the beginning, in fact if I could choose my perfect man Duncan would be right up there. Crystal is sweet, caring and a single mother. Everything she did for Duncan, so he could make a difference in the world. There were a couple of places I felt the story dragging. Duncan was proud of his body and a bit obsessed about it. I loved how Duncan took charge and made everything right. Boy did he pick the right time to go home. I volunteered to read an advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.
This book was a tad bit different than what Alexis usually writes. We have a Navy SEAL who doesn't know that his former high school flame had his baby while he was away. Now on leave, he shows up in his hometown looking for Crystal. The only woman that he has ever loved and could never forget and to find a hurricane hitting the town.
Wow, this story has a whole lot of action and some delicious sexy times. First, the hurricane and then to find out that their former friend, who had made a pass at Crystal, also kidnapped his daughter. Now to find Jake and get his daughter back.
This book was a great read.
********* I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book *********
Crystal got pregnant at eighteen and decided to raise her daughter alone, so her childs father could pursue his dream. At eighteen, Duncan wants to make the world a better place for the girl he loves, so he enlists and becomes a Navy SEAL. Duncan takes leave to go home for a visit, and finds himself racing to save his daughter from a man he, and Crystal, once considered a friend. Fascinating, and well written characters fighting to survive a storm. Exciting and suspenseful plot with a happily ever after. Fantastic book, I loved it!
I am voluntarily leaving an honest and non-incentivized review of this ARC.
Sweetheart for the Seal By Alexis Abbott Main Characters: Crystal & Duncan I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author. 4 out of 5 stars This is a second chance contemporary m/f romance. Duncan & Crystal were high school sweethearts who went separate ways to follow their dreams. Unfortunately dreams don't always come true for everyone when you want them. This is more of a good guy book rather than the bad boy's we are used to seeing from Ms. Abbott. I like this better but I did have a hard time believing these two having sex in the middle of a hurricane instead of trying to rescue Kota.
Alexis is an incredible storyteller and with this story captivates you in such a way that you can't put the book down. Duncan a navy seal comes home after 4 years, finds Crystal in the midst of a tropical storm and needing help. Duncan never forgot the girl he left behind and he is ready to protect her and Dakota, their daughter. I love the deeply emotional moments, the sizzling hot sex scenes, the huge element of danger, and of course sweet romance, all adding up to an incredible HEA. Outstandingly brilliant story! Complex characters! A definite must read! I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
