When a local big shot is found dead in a locked car with a painted shell in his pocket bearing an ominous warning, it’s up to Guinivere Jones, intrepid reporter and amateur sleuth, to determine the true cause of death.
Book eight in the Sanibel Island Mystery series, For Whom the Shell Tolls takes readers on the hunt for a buried treasure—and a possible murderer—and combines mystery, romance, and seashells in an irresistible read.
Jennifer Lonoff Schiff is the author of the popular Sanibel Island Mystery series and the stand-alone novels Tinder Fella, a delightful rom-com set in NYC, and Something's Cooking in Chianti, a culinary mystery set in Italy.
Prior to her career as an author, Jennifer worked as a fact-checker, researcher, writer, and/or editor for a variety of magazines and book publishers. She eventually left the publishing world to found a boutique marketing communications agency that helped companies tell their story, for which she won several awards.
When not busy working on her next novel, Jennifer can be found playing with her two cats, taking long walks on the beach, or with her nose in someone else's book.
I really loved this Sanibel Island Mystery series. I hope at a later date Jennifer Schiff the author writes more in the series like this!!! This is book 8 in the series. When a local big shot is found dead in a locked car with a painted shell in his pocket with a warning painted on it its up to Guinivere Jones intrepid reporter and amateur sleuth to determine the cause of death. This story combines mystery, romance, and seashells in a fantastic read!!!!
I love this series, which is especially fun to read if you’ve been to Sanibel and the Ft. Myers Beach area. I always look forward to reading the next one!
I love the Sanibel Island Mysteries! This book continues with Guin working to find out how a local resident died. Was it suicide or was he killed? Jennifer Schiff does such a wonderful job drawing me into the story and keeping it a page turner! Have fun following along with this new mystery.
I am glad to say that Guin did not find the body in this mystery. So many things happened in this book, I don’t know where to begin. Ris returned and wants to start up again with Guin. The detective is moving to Boston to help his son and grandson. Glen asked her to go the Tuscany for a cooking class. There was the first annual shell treasure hunt where some painted shells go missing. One of the shells happens to find its way to the murdered victim’s law office several days before his “murder”. Because it was cyanide, they said it was suicide and self-inflicted, but Guin, his wife, and his mistress don’t believe he was capable of suicide. There begins the investigation…This series is an awesome summer read. You get involved with the characters, they become part of your world and you become part of theirs. Excellent series.

I am totally addicted to this series! I love the characters and all the mysteries the author has cleverly created. I did not find this title quite as exciting as the other books in the series but I still did enjoy the read. The way the book ended makes me think that the next book is going to be very exhilarating and the author is going to throw in some great twists and turns and I am really looking forward to what will become of the Detective and also the handsome Professor. I think the main character Guinevere Jones is in for a thrill of a lifetime!
Always look forward to the next book in this series. The plot did have me guessing “whodunnit” this time. I appreciate the character development and look forward to what happens in book 9! Read this in one day…simple and fun!
When visiting my favorite beaches, I love to read local writers. Jennifer Schiff does not disappoint. A nice light mystery to enjoy while relaxing on the beach. Or a light read before you rest for the evening.
I would have given more stars but the series is bogged down by such minutae it detracts from the story line. No one needs to be told constantly how Guin dresses, eats or feeds her cat. Also each mystery is rather formulaic.
I love the Sanibel Mysteries. I visited Sanibel about 5 years ago and like most everyone that visits- falls in love. I can visualize the places they go — plus the storyline was fantastic. Jennifer Lonoff Schiff always does a great job holding your attention and interest.
I loved book 5 but since then Guin has a really hard time in her love life the men who want her she doesn’t want and the men who don’t seem to respect a relationship with her are always too busy for her!
Loved the series. Disappointed in this book. Detective OLaughlin was the dangling carrot that just shriveled up. It would have been so easy to develop his character.
What a great book! Jennifer Schiff writes just what we need to tread this summer, wonderful stories about an island. What island you ask, why our favorite Sanibel! Since Hurricane Ian did his major destruction on the island only parts of it are open, mainly on the Captiva end. Jennifer and her husband lost their home, possessions and a car! So since we can’t visit for a few years, why not get your Sanibel fix by reading Jennifer’s wonderful books about a newspaper writer, Guin, her handsome detective friend and equally handsome photographer, and a cast of quirky characters who will delight you. Plus, you will recognize all the places you love to go on Sanibel. That’s a win in my book. So, buy all 9 of her books ( almost 10) and help her keep writing. You can find her books on line at MacIntosh Books and on her website: https://www.sanibelislandmysteries.com/ you won’t be disappointed!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
