This one is a 2.5 for me. City kid Bo is playing with various farm animal toys on his bed when this story opens. While readers will be forgiven for initially thinking that he's literally heading off on an adventure or a trip to the farm, they will quickly realize that this isn't the case. Bo is engaged in imaginative play, and the subsequent pages show him learning all about the work that farmers do. Over the course of several pages, Bo picks and eats fruits and veggies, harvests pumpkins, loads up the truck for a trip to the market, and rounds up some escaped goats. Several pages have holes through which readers can peek to glimpse the next or previous scene, and the next-to-last pages boast a large pop-up that shows Bo in all his glory, proud of all that he's accomplished. And after all this activity, he's ready for another adventure. He just needs to plan it. Bright colors in the illustrations and Bo's smiling face add kid appeal to this board book, part of a series that could provide an introduction to various jobs and ways of living.
Bo goes on an adventure at the farm! He feeds the animals, harvests vegetables and fruit, milks the cows, and collects honey from the beehive. The goats escape from their field, and he has to round them up again by feeding them raisins. He loads up his crop onto the big farm truck to take his harvest to the market.
I love the clever die-cut openings in this book! The illustrations are so colorful and vibrant, and each opening reveals something on the next page. I love all the little details in the background of each scene. There is also a surprise pop-out design at the end that is very cool!
This book is really special, and so much fun to read!

Bo drives to the farm from his home in the city. He milks the cows, feeds the alpacas, sheep and goats, gathers eggs from the chickens and collect honey from the bees. He harvests fruit and vegetables and begins the peanut harvest. All along the way, Bo is followed by a mischievous duck. He loads his truck with the bounty he has harvested and heads back to the city.
Colorful, bright illustrations show a little boy loving his farm experience. Lots of animals and growing things can be pointed out by little farm lovers. Cut-out holes preview farm items on the coming page. A pop-up spread on the second to last page showcases the entire farm.
Mar 2024: This is a really good book for teaching kids where all of the farm produce comes from. Lots of fruits and wheat and corn and milk and wool. Told via a boy, Bo playing at being a farmer, it's a fun story that is easy to reread and fun for kids to point out the animals and foods they recognise.
