Beautiful People: Women of Color Decentralizing Innovation in Beauty

Rate this book
Most of the beauty brands we know are not separate entities; they are all owned by one of seven conglomerates.

Sadichchha Adhikari wants to talk about it.

Beautiful People: Women of Color Decentralizing Innovation in Beauty details the beauty industry's history, tracing back the origins of its renowned and beloved companies. It also tells the stories of women of color who founded companies to diversify and decentralize product development to create successful brands. In a sea of cookie-cutter brands, these women defied the odds to create products for others like them and paved the way for more independent, diverse businesses.

You’ll read inspiring stories from
Rea Ann Silva, the founder of Beautyblender

This book has truly changed my beauty experience. So thoughtfully written, curated with brilliant research and real life applications as to how we can create a more equitable and inclusion beauty industry. As a consumer, the decisions we make at checkout have an impact. So inspired by the stories of the women of color featured in this book.

A fast and brilliant read. “Beautiful People” tells of the overarching history of representation in the beauty industry, while also sharing the stories and insights of women who have already made an impact in the push to decentralize the industry. Sadichchha uses a plethora of sources to show the impact of the past, while underscoring that there is still work to be done and highlighting some of the many phenomenal women of color who are leading the charge.
