After the untimely death of their mother, fifteen-year-old twins Julian and Oliver Hughes are left to navigate the burdens of high school alone, never expecting these would include a test cheating scandal, a historic blizzard, and a vindictive theatre diva.As the brothers face up to their own hurt, they learn valuable lessons—about faith, forgiveness, and above all, grace. But will these lessons be enough to keep the Hughes family together?Enlighten Me is a modern-day retelling of twelve parables from the Bible. A study guide follows the fictional story, listing the referenced parables with exploratory questions to help readers gain a better understanding of the Word of God.
This is such a creative way of putting Jesus’ parables into modern language. I highly recommend this, not just to teens, but to everyone. Very well done!
What a page-turner of a read this was, and there were so many levels to appreciate. The story stands on its own as a touching chronicle of the lives of a father and his two sons, and their challenges to carry on after a tragic event. Shifting points of view from chapter to chapter added depth and empathy for the various teen and adult characters. High schoolers will relate to the realistic social ups and downs of scholastic life, and parents will find insights within as well. And amazingly, in its telling, the story parallels 12 parables from the Bible, as detailed in the included extensive study guide, which also offers wonderfully probing questions for discussion. This book is an ideal gift for a teen or for anyone looking to see modern-day illustrations of the parables of the Bible.
I love the representations of girls in theatre! The characters were all so fun and the story was very easy to follow and a true joy to read. The romance was sweet and lighthearted, and the book had such great messages throughout. This book helped me get out of a reading slump and got me hooked on YA romances.
