Rate this book
This is the missing piece! This book covers the most important and also overlooked part of Combat and Self-Defense training. The Mindset! Most instructors and martial arts books focus on an actual skill set. This work fills that gap. With "Combat Martial Philosophy" you will learn 99% of what others fail to teach. This book begins with the results of a study of actual live violent attacks caught on open source media. Then it quantifies in precentages what you will likely experience, the exact skills that you will need, and what you can expect based on the presence or absence of those skills. With those findings in mind this book goes on to equip you with the mindset training that you need, an explanation of the skill sets that you need, how to get those skill sets, how to blend those skill sets together, and much more. This book is written in an easy-to-understand method that flows logically from one subject to the other. The chapters are intentionally kept small for easy reading and reflection. In addition to all that, the contents of this book work with any style of self-defense. The principles within apply to striking, grappling, firearms, knife fighting, and everything in between. This book is Volume 1 in a 5 part series. Vol. 2 Combat Martial Training was released on November 1st of 2021 and Vol. 3 Combat Martial Skills will be released in 2023. This series approaches self-defense/combat with the mindset first because it is the command center and foundation of the arsenal of techniques. Several small corrections have been made to the script since the original publication date such as added page numbers and other minor additions/corrections.

A solid read. I enjoyed the content, as a martial artist and LEO I found much to relate to in this work. I especially enjoyed the emphasis on cross training in different modalities of combat including firearms.

The author often cities works that I read and enjoyed in the past and relates his own experience to them. The quick chapter format is ideal for reading on the go and allows you to break up the book and reflect easily on what you read.

Definitely worth checking out for anyone interested in self defense and combat.

A great book for understand an overview of all the components involved in self defense. It really stresses to expect the unexpected. It follows a "plan for the worst and hope for the best" philosophy. A great instructional introduction to self defense.
