Jesus, the Very Thought of Thee is a beautiful collection of selected passages from the New Testament with insightful commentary by two respected gospel scholars and teachers. Now beloved for over a decade, the teachings in this book are as timely and thoughtful as ever for your personal New Testament study. Authors Lloyd D. Newell and Robert L. He and his wife, Shauna, have six children and live in Provo, Utah.
This might be my second time in reading this Daily Reflections book. It let's you think about the love that Jesus has for those in the world in all different times. This probably shouldn't count as two books because I hit the finished once when I meant to just update.
It was nice to take one scripture a day from the New Testament and study it.
This small book contains an inspirational thought for each day of the year plus a scripture from the New Testament. One entry that stood out to me was:
Matthew 10:34 "'The more you obey your conscience,' C. S. Lewis observed, 'the more your conscience will demand of you. And your natural self, which is thus being starved and hampered and worried at every turn, will get angrier and angrier. It is as though Jesus were saying to each of us, 'Give me all. I don't want so much of your time and so much of your money and so much of your work. I want you. I have not come to torment your natural self, but to kill it... I will give you a new self instead. In fact, I will give you myself: my own will shall becomes yours.'"
I received this as a gift many many year ago. Figured it was about time I actually read it. 365 daily scriptural passages paired with quotes from modern general authorities. One page per day for a year. Good times.
