A sublime book by Steinbeck's teacher at Stanford. I made a tonne of notes and will use this as a reference for my work this year. Not one for beginners.

Edith Ronald Mirrielees was a teacher of writing at Stanford University in the early 1900s. Her students included John Steinbeck and Howard Pease. This particular book has a forward by Steinbeck.
The audience that is intended for this book is the short story writer. However, there is much for the writers of long fiction.
Given she was a teacher, the format of this book includes reading assignments which I have found to be extremely illustrative of the concepts she was attempting to offer.
