The Angel's Wrath

Rate this book
After the success of the Outliers’ Revolution, things are far from settled for Don Diego and the vampire coven of Santa Fe. Trouble lurks around every corner this holiday season: an impending duel with a deadly mercenary from Spain with whom Diego shares a violent past, and vampires from Washington D.C. who want control of the entire country. An outsider attacking citizens of The City Different threatens to break the truce with the Preternatural Control Team before it’s barely begun. An inhuman art thief is pinching important paintings, including a priceless Cézanne from Diego’s own wall. But worst of all in the new alcalde’s estimation, Dakota’s globe-trotting ex has returned from the jungles of Guatemala, and Diego knows Henrik Heyerdahl’s renewed interest in his consort is anything but platonic. The archeologist is hiding something, and it’s possible he has brought his own supernatural troubles back from the Mayan ruins of the Petén.

When Don Edgar makes an attempt on Dakota del Toro’s life, the bounty hunter shoots her way out, but finds herself suspended from PCT. The future of her career rests in her superior’s hands, and John Steele seems all too eager to extort her into signing up for Knighthood. Determined not to be a pawn in a Super-Secret Monster-Hunting Society’s game, Dakota digs in her heels, though new powers and the continuation of dreams that feel more and more like memories pull her toward something that feels alarmingly like destiny. Diego knows more than he will say, and Dakota recklessly gambles on the millennia-old demon Sri Devendra for answers. Whether he will help her, or he has his own agenda, is anyone’s guess…

Long ago, a fortune teller read Julia's palm and told her, “You’d better write this all down.” Julia has been writing, writing, writing, ever since. Somewhere along the line she earned a degree in fine art and traveled the world. Now she lives on a farm in Missouri with her darling husband, two criminal conures, one stubborn bulldog, one bad bunny, and possibly too many chickens.

But really, is there such a thing as too many chickens?

Julia, what are you doing to me? I want to be mad at you, but I can’t be mad because *waves hand wildly at things I can’t mention as they would spoil the book."

Poor Dakota, sometimes she just can’t help landing herself in trouble, and sometimes she puts herself there willingly. It’s all very disconcerting, and I can’t say I agree with all of her choices. In fact, some have made me downright angry. I found her maddening sometimes. But I have faith in DeBarrioz, and I know that we, the reader, will be made whole through time and brilliant writing even if the direction is not the one we were expecting or even imagined.

I don’t know where we will go from here. The more Dakota learns about herself, the more I’m sure there is something sinister at play. I don’t trust her boss in the slightest. It would be easy for her to get up and walk away. But, while she’s good at it, maybe she should branch out, go solo. I also don’t trust Henrik and his cocky sureness. I’m not sure if he has a place in Dakota’s world anymore. I would love nothing more than for things to be absolutely perfect for her. But... then I wouldn’t have this incredible book series to hug close to my chest in kinship with such a strong heroine, stubborn tendencies and all. The Angel’s Wrath really puts you through the wringer, throwing you through every emotion imaginable. I am so glad to be a part of this series and cannot wait to see what’s next.

The blurb roughly summarizes what happens in this book and it is evident that for Dakota, controlling feelings and emotions become increasingly difficult with all the danger that surrounded her and the men of her life, tempting her and demanding from her what she felt like she couldn’t give. Don Diego was anguished and not thinking, he made serious mistakes. Amusing how the vampire was dealing with his doubts. What a drama! To add to this, Dakota realizes that something important has happened to her and everything indicates that her life will be in even greater danger. Intriguing and mysterious the situation Dakota finds herself in. Will she be alone to face the danger that lies ahead? Lots of action, suspense, drama, violence and passion in this book full of intense, exciting and dangerous situations. Voluntarily reviewed this copy that I received free from Booksprout and I enjoyed.

It just keeps getting better and better. DDT#3 it's everything that I could have asked for and more. I lose myself in Julia's world... the imagery, the darkness, heartbreak... the sexiness *chef's kiss*. I cannot wait for the next installment. Ugh... type fast Julia, please1 😂

Dakota del Toro is a kicka** bounty hunter, but she hunts things that are more in the supernatural realm than usual (think vampires and werewolves). But, she is also involved in a budding relationship with the head of the Santa Fe coven of vampires, Diego de Gama. As if that wasn't enough of a problem, Dakota's ex-lover, Henrik, shows up and she isn't sure about her feelings for him.

Throw in Dakota's growing dreams/visions of a past life, her boss' insistence that she is a Chosen One, a few Nazis, crazy vampires and the threat of evil vamps taking over the city and you have one heck of a ride! This book is full of action, angst, steamy romance, and (of course) vampires, all set in the beautiful city of Santa Fe.

If you enjoy independent, sassy heroines, suave heroes, plenty of vampire killing and a great story, you will love this book (along with the rest of the series). I would recommend that you start at the beginning of the series in order to get the full appreciation of the book. Very well-written with great characters, I can't wait to see what adventures await Dakota!

This third installment of the Dakota del Toro series does not disappoint! To start, just being back in this world was fantastic. And this time everything was more. It was darker, sexier, and the stakes were higher as we delve deeper into the past and what it means for not just what Dakota and the gang are going through in the present, but Dakota’s future and greater purpose. Throw in an intriguing ex-boyfriend who both Dakota and the reader should hate yet can’t seem to resist, and you have a recipe for a seriously angsty ride. With absolutely riveting action, emotional highs and lows in almost every relationship between our heroine and those closest to her, and plenty of surprises, this is an underscore to the must-read nature of this series. In case it wasn’t obvious, I highly recommend this book and the whole series.

I love how this series started out sharply focused on one person's journey, and the world building has expanded with every new installment. Without giving a lot away, a whole batch of new insights about supernatural beings from around the world emerge in this story. They aren't cardboard cutouts of monsters either--I adore how even minor characters have enough texture and detail to make them feel like actual persons in their own right. Highly recommend this entire series, and as my title implies, I enjoyed this one most of all (maybe until the next one? lol)

This is the third book we see Dakota in and this time is better than ever! So much action and angst and drama! I love how all the characters are portrayed you can really feel their emotions and have real opinions on them as if they were real. Even characters who have a lesser role are described so well that you feel they are real! The author is an amazing writer she makes you feel the whole way through the book! Also the description of an ex boyfriend who I think we as the reader are supposed to dislike (I could not dislike him ha) is fabulous! I could not put this book down it’s fabulous. And now maybe we are all hoping for more from our fabulous Dakota!

The Angel's Wrath is the third book in this series. If you've read the first two you have come to expect Dakota to be strong, fearless, and hard-headed. This installment does not disappoint! Were some of her choices questionable...yes. Did I want to scream and yell at her...also yes! This book has a bit of everything - drama, darkness, romance, and supernatural creatures. The story is well-written and fast-paced. I look forward to seeing where this series will go in the future.

How will this end?

Dakota’s life has become complicated and as a reader we wonder how this will end. Still as strong-willed as ever and reckless she veers between common sense and behaviour that makes little sense. Too many secrets. Too many people not talking and too many nasties crawling out of the woodwork has us on edge.
A happy ending is not always possible. Can’t wait to see where Dakota’s heart ends up and if she will survive to enjoy it.
