Psychic Mates #3

Training Rain

Rate this book
Having spent most of her life avoiding people and hiding her psychic gifts, Rain is shocked when the new Psi Alliance asks her to join. She didn’t count on the rigorous training or needing all of her Native American knowledge to complete the course. And if only she could ignore her attraction to her devilishly handsome instructor.

Jess shows up to train a new psychic recruit and the crazy woman shoots him in the doorway. His new student is the raven-haired beauty who once saved his life. Trying to keep his focus on survival training is hard enough without the added stress of a rogue government agency trying to kill them.

Escaping danger leads them directly into each other’s arms. The only question is— can they survive long enough to find comfort there?

Night Owl Review

Original Review Published here: http://www.nightowlreviews.com/v5/Rev...

Training Rain is the third book in the Psychic Mates series by A. S. Fenichel. This book can be read and enjoyed as a standalone novel but is best read as part of the series.

Jess is a hot and sexy psychic who worked for a government agency until a fellow psychic tried to steal his ability. The result was that Jess almost died if not for the help of Rain Silver. Now Jess has a new employer who wants him to train a new recruit, Rain.

Rain is a Native American healer. She is very good at what she does even though she has not been trained. Rain is learning how to push herself and strengthen her abilities as well as use them as a weapon when she needs them too. She fights an internal battle when her new training clashes with her Native American values and teachings.

The connection between Jess and Rain is blistering. The chemistry builds from the beginning of the story. I liked that it was not a love at first sight story. It was realistic seeing them fall in love with each other. The sex scenes were scorching.

I found this book well written with an interesting plot. The way the author handled the psychic ability was realistic. The main and secondary characters were fascinating. The ending was a bit predictable but this story was more about the journey that brings Jess and Rain together. Overall, this was a great book.

Favorite Quotes:
Energy crackled from behind the door. It was a sensation he recognized well. His grip relaxed on his weapon and he smiled before the door opened.
“I didn’t think you were going to make it, Jess.” Tessa Clark grinned from the open doorway and stepped into his open arms for a hug.
Joshua grinned from across the room. “You say that, but she saved your life. In fact, if she hadn’t blocked Banta from gathering auras, we all might have been killed.”
“I recognize that, but it doesn’t mean I think she should risk her life the way we do. What’s wrong with being a healer in Nevada?”
Tessa said, “Nothing, but Adianca informed us that Rain was unhappy and had a different destiny.”

“Identify yourself.” The panic in her voice didn’t exactly scream confident law enforcement agent.
More banging and then the doorknob turned. Rain’s heart thundered so hard her ears rang. The room seemed to be closing in. The roof continued to creak under the weight of the snow. Whoever pushed on the door had it halfway open. She could see the sleeve of a white parka.
She fired!
The shotgun jerked against her shoulder, pushing her back a step. Her hip came up hard against the back of the couch, but she held her ground, ready to take the second shot if need be.
The door pushed all the way open. Freezing cold wind and a swirl of snow whipped through the cabin. The lights went out. A body fell into the room. “Goddamit! Put the fucking gun down, Rain. It’s Jess.”
“What are you doing here in the middle of a blizzard?”
“Our fearless leaders sent me to train you.”
Her entire body heated. She was glad for her dark Native American skin and hoped he couldn’t tell she was blushing. “Train me in what?”
Jess’ head cocked to one side. His voice suddenly dripped with the Louisiana accent that was always hinted at. “To be an agent, but if you’d like training in some other skill, Rain, just let me know and I’ll be glad to help.”
Now she was sure he could see her blushing. “I mean, I can’t shoot lightning from my fingertips or make a chair fly across the room. I don’t read minds. What is it you’re going to teach me to do?”
“How about we start with not shooting through a door when you don’t know who’s on the other side of it?”
“I said I was sorry.” She couldn’t believe how completely lame that sounded. She’d shot him. He didn’t say anything. The tension was choking her and her cheeks were on fire. She got up and added a log to the fire.

This story was given to me in exchange for an honest review.
This is a story that I could not put down. This is a story about men and women work for an alliance called Psi Alliance. In this story you meet Rain a Native American who is a medicine women and a healer. She first meets a man who she had to heal before he dies and in doing so she has to feel the same pain and everything he endured, even months later she still wakes up feeling pain and events of that night. Jess (Jesse) is a psychic who has been sent to recruit and train Rain months later. When he arrived at the place they were to meet the first thing she does is shoot him through the door. What a way to meet the man of your dream, almost killing him after she just saved him earlier.

During her training both Jess and Rain realize that they had feelings that were not just friendship. They were falling in love with each other but the problem was their sessions went from training to reality. Powerful people wanted the Psi Alliance dead and now they set their sights on Rain and Jess. Will Rain and Jess survive long enough to find out if what they were feeling were true? Or would their secrets and past destroy it?

This is a great story with well-developed characters. There is sex, hot sexy psi men, even hot sexy bad guys. Cannot wait for the next in the series!!!

***4.5 Stars***

Training Rain is the third book in the series and I was a little worried, having not read the first two. That didn’t affect the story one bit though. The author gave enough background info within the first few chapters. I absolutely LOVE Rain and Jess. In fact, I loved all of the characters so much I can’t wait to go back and read the first two stories!

Jess, a sexy as sin psychic, previously worked for a government agency until a fellow psychic, Troth Banta, attempted to steal his ability and tear his soul from his body. If it weren’t for Rain Silver, a beautiful Native American healer, Jess would have died.

Months later, Jess is given an assignment from his new employer, the Psi Alliance. He must train Rain and help her hone in on her psychic talents. The last person Rain expects to come knocking on the door of the cabin that the Psi Alliance set her up in is Jess McMean. All of the memories and pain from the night she saved his life come flooding back to her.

Jess and Rain are thrown into a battle that will test the strength of both the Psi Alliance and their relationship. In the midst of all the drama and bloodshed, their feelings for one another grow.

The thing I loved most about this story was the chemistry between Jess and Rain. It isn’t insta-love, but they have a strong connection from the beginning that builds throughout the story. I love the fact that they draw strength from each other. It makes their relationship so much more relatable.

*Jess surprised her by taking her hand. “You’ll make it. Come on.”
They were both in gloves, but she looked down at the connection of her hand with his. She would have sworn she could feel the warmth of his skin seeping into her hand and spreading through her body. “I guess I’ll make it then.”*

Oh, and I can’t forget one of my favorite elements…the panty-melting sex scenes! They are so well written, I may or may not have had to fan myself a few times.

Overall, this story has the perfect blend of suspense, action, love and steamy erotica.

Rain is the Psi Alliance’s newest recruit and Jess is finding it hard to focus on survival training and not just because of the rogue government agency trying to kill them and escaping danger is only leading them straight into each other’s arms in this thrilling paranormal romance. The danger from the rogue government is an ongoing problem for the Psi Alliance which keeps everyone on their toes and anticipation building throughout the story and the author adds a few surprising twists to spice things up. This fascinating world and captivating characters has certainly caught my interest and there was never a dull moment is this enjoyable and entertaining read and I can’t wait to read the next one.

This is the first book in Fenichel’s Psi series that I’ve read, and I really enjoyed it. It took a little while to warm up to both characters, but once I did, I found them to be likeable and interesting. The chemistry between the pair was outstanding.

This is one of the fastest paced, most action packed romance novels I’ve read in a long time. The couple spent more time dodging danger than they did talking, which I found to be a welcome change.

Although there were a few spots where I found my attention wandering, overall I found Training Rain to be a good, quick read and have no reservations about recommending it to others.
Training Rain does contain some intense sex scenes and

This was an interesting tale. I enjoyed the banter between Rain and Jess as they realized their past connection. With danger coming at them, they worked together and fell in love. I recommend this story.
