In a world gone mad, she'll protect her daughter at any cost…
For Megan Wolford, life as she knew it came to an end after the world was decimated by an EMP. Now, she does her best to survive, and protect her daughter, Caitlin. Megan and Wyatt must work together to save Caitlin, and forge a new life in a broken world. As they grow closer, they slowly discover other survivors they can trust. Strength in numbers could make the difference between life and death—but responsibility for others is a heavy burden.
And in a world driven to the brink, survival may require more sacrifice than they can possibly imagine…
This thrilling post-apocalyptic set contains EMP Lodge books 1-6, a complete series about surviving on the edge when all is lost.
Grace Hamilton is the prepper pen-name for a bad-ass, survivalist momma-bear of four kids, and wife to a wonderful husband. After being stuck in a mountain cabin for six days following a flash flood, she decided she never wanted to feel so powerless or have to send her kids to bed hungry again. Now she lives the prepper lifestyle and knows that if SHTF or TEOTWAWKI happens, she’ll be ready to help protect and provide for her family.
Combine this survivalist mentality with a vivid imagination (as well as a slightly unhealthy day dreaming habit) and you get a prepper fiction author. Grace spends her days thinking about the worst possible survival situations that a person could be thrown into, then throwing her characters into these nightmares while trying to figure out "What SHOULD you do in this situation?"
It’s her wish that through her characters, you will get to experience what life will be like and essentially learn from their mistakes and experiences.
So nice to have the series from beginning to end. I learned some.things I've put to use. Grace Hamilton had a lot of realistic survival information such as grinding grains for flour, ways to do things. I enjoyed the lessons on herbs, building bricks, etc. Enjoyed every page!
Why would a female author write about such a bitter female lead character that’s as childish as a teenager. She is completely unlikable only the so called hunting gives her any credit yet she skins a rabbit with a knife? And can’t navigate even though she collects moss can’t determine which side of the tree it’s on? The author needs to go out and learn the subject she is writing about
Interesting premise, but the delivery is clumsy. The writer can't seem to decide if the work is a survivalist manual, an action/adventure/thriller or a romance novel - and because of that it doesn't fully deliver on any of them.
Seriously, I hate Megan. She is so incredibly annoying. I am all for a strong, stubborn FMC but she just comes off as a pain in the ass. The only reason that I even bothered with finishing this series is because I used my last audiobook credit. The whole time, I was talking shit about Megan and her irritating behavior.
99 cents was the price I paid. This reads like an early summary of what she was GOING to write. SIX volumes of summary. Painfull to read. I gave up partway throug volume one. Sorry.
I had high hopes for this series, I truly did. I’m on book 4 and thinking about calling it quits. A lot of the plots had so much potential, yet everything was extremely underwhelming. The only thing that got me really worked up in this series is how much I despised Megan, the main character. She thinks she’s Gods gift to earth with all the solutions to all the problems but she comes off as stubborn, arrogant and completely insufferable.
I loved the lengthy epilogue of each book. No disrespect intended, but I've read so many books written by women and you can almost tell, it was through a woman's eyes. Despite this, I keep buying them. And thank goodness I did. Grace was so incredibly different. It was raw and gritty, with a deep knowledge of all subject matter. Nothing was vague, usually caused because of lack of intimate knowledge of the subject matter. I especially loved, yes loved, Rosie's use of essential oils and her alternative medicine. So rare to read about something like this in any apocalypse book. Well done once again Grace. You nailed every subject that kept me reading late into the night. You are so very talented.

Absolute attention grabber from the first sentence to the last!
I absolutely loved this series! I couldn’t stop reading, often well into the night knowing I had to get up early! From the first sentence to the last my attention was held in a tight grip of anticipation. I also enjoyed that there was a love story but not the details of their intimate times, which is hard to find these days.
All the details of prepping really opened my eyes to how unprepared we really are in the even of a disaster and gave me some great implementation ideas for my own family. Great series, great author!
I was locked into their story from start to finish! One page called for another. The writer did not fill in with a lot of unnecessary details. A diverse group of characters and so well described that you could imagine what they looked and sounded like. Unlike many other authors, she took you from start to a complete finish. If you are looking for a series with never a dull moment this is it! Each book slides right into the next without a lot of rehashing old details. Buy the set, you won't regret it! I am certainly going to follow this author as she blazes new paths in her writing career.
This is quite a long book series but well worth every single minute spent reading it. The story is very well written and flows from one book to the next with great precision and the characters are a joy to get to know obviously some you will not like!!. The book also contains a lot of very interesting snippets about survival from medicinal herb usage to fortification / building. At it's price on kindle it's a no brainer of a choice 99p. Look forward to reading more of the author's work. Dave UK
Only read book one Dark Retreat. While it did have some interesting and valuable info about post apocalypse survival, the story and characters were too goody-goody and cookie cutter copies. Finished the book because I always hope the story pace will pick up, but it was so boring, obvious and vapid it was difficult. It’s like this book was a high school writing assignment- that’s how blah it felt. Perhaps this is a new author and the rest of the books really kicked in. My best wishes to the author- the writing style was mostly ok, but pacing, plot and excitement were a bust for me
I've read several books regarding this subject matter. I definitely give this one five stars. I really think it actually describes what just regular people would do. The one advantage they had was that the house in the mountains was already there. I found myself making notes regarding ways to substitute, create alternative ways, improvise and use their imagination. I definitely would recommend this series.
This is a good story that I would recommend for other people to read. It is an interesting fiction series but one can learn a lot from reading it. I fell in love with the characters enjoyed watching each one of them grow into physically and mentally well developed human beings. I hope that we have a few good people like Megan and Wyatt, shit disaster strike our nation.
This book series was fun and exciting. However, it was quite sad at times, as well. The author did a nice job with character development, which caused me to grow attached to the people and the story continually grew. By the way, I bought the boxed set and read it straight threw. There were a few events in the story that didn't make complete sense or that seemed a bit unbelievable, but overall the author did great job telling the story.
The challenges for the survivors of an EMP in North America are great, and the way they are tackled is admirable. However, I grew frustrated with the constant rehashing of "was I responsible for that person's death", "should I have done things differently", "how will I save ___". Yes, those thoughts would occur -- but I don't want to read them over and over, ad nauseam. It felt like a lot of filler, and I ended up skimming many pages just to get to the next challenge.
As a lead character Megan is quite disappointing, as the series goes she learns valuable skills in trapping, hunting, shooting, farming, building BUT she frustratingly impulsive, stubborn and resistant to reason. She is the most poorly written character in the series.
On bright side, this series is a good lesson in ingenuity and finding community to rebuild and survive not only primitive conditions but general lawlessness of desperate or malicious people
Either by the Sun or by High Nuclear Explosion, by one of our “not so friendly enemies.” We will go dark and it will be just like in the book. Everyone out for themselves. People killing neighbors to feed their families. Prez Biden wants to stop Texas Gov. from beefing up the border, Gov say eff off to prez, could be start of insurrection war. I know I’ll be there, helping Texas!! Good book.
A great read could not put it down. Fell in love with the main characters . I could feel their anger and the injustice, also brought tears to my eyes in many places, but also made me laugh out loud more then once. All six books were great and was sad when I finished. Looking forward to reading more by this author.
I loved this series I don't usually leave a rating but in this case I felt I wanted to love the author kept me reading late at night great read loved the way every one had a job the author explained everything in such detail made me feel I was going through everything with them. Edit
Story line very good, with lots of on the edge of your seat action, good times and heartbreak. Generally well written except for the use of commas - occasionally not used when required, but frequently used where not required - enough so that it made me a bit irritated lol!
Believable or not, impossible as survival sometimes seemed, they made do by making something out of nothing when necessary, caring for each other and going to extreme lengths to protect everyone. It was a great series, I couldn't read fast enough. Just wish there weren't so many dead heroes. But the good guys prevailed!
6 books in this series is way to long. Unless you want to know how many uses dental floss and be used for. I was beginning to this this was a self help book on uses of things. The story line was bad. Megan the main character was poorly written, so here character was bad. I give myself 5 stars for reading these book until the end. There are MUCH better series out there.
Wow! Couldn't put this series down. Constant twists and turns . Working to survive every day in a world turned upside down by an EMP. Thankfully the family was blessed with a father who had planned for the possibility. People learned what they needed to do to survive and work together despite many obstacles.
Edge of your seat series following an amazing group of people who learned to work together to survive many challenges. Loved the information these books gave on how to make and use things should you have nothing. Anyone and everyone should read this series.
I enjoyed the fact that the author was certainly predictable in the story itself. I didn't think she would be so uncomfortable with the basic survival skills surrounding this apocalyptic event. Each time of crisis was met with steady plodding onto the super heroine saving the day.
The story was good, a lot of action and the characters remained true to who they were at the beginning. Unfortunately, Megan sometimes drove me nuts! For a woman of her age, raising a child, she was a brat. Temper tantrums, running off willy nilly, not caring how her actions endangered the rest of their group. Kudos on using good spelling and grammar!
Survival is all some people are hoped for after the lights go off all around the northern hemisphere but others want to make little kingdoms for themselves. One family planned ahead and had an off grid home away from home to escape to, losing the patriarch in their escape. Now they try to survive one day at a time until the power comes back. Good read.
I really enjoyed the series. There were lots of twists and turns and even a few unexpected things to keep my attention. The characters were "put together" well and you felt connected to them. There were some things that made me scratch my head in disbelief, but I chocked that to my own personal nature.
I love Apocalyptic books. Grace Hamilton deserves huge credit for this one. The characters are brought to life, I could feel I was with them in their battles to survive. There were many twist, suspicions, laughs, sadness. Definitely one to read, I highly recommend it.
