A coffee table book with lots of nice pictures and not a lot of words. The Author was part of the David Austin Rose organization for 35 years and a lot of this book shows his slant. There are about 5 roses that repeat in just about all the recommendations and are from this collection. I took this book on a camping trip to the coast and read the entire thing (not exactly a deep read as mentioned). I came close to giving it 3 stars for this reason but there were so few reviews that I thought it may negatively slant the ratings.

I was a bit disappointed with this book. The main issue that I have is I can’t tell the types of roses that we have. The book had lots of different types and when I used an app which the book did not discuss, I found out about evergreen roses which there was no discussion. There is some info but I didn’t find useful.

I picked this up at the library because I am perpetually confused about all the types of roses. I found enough information in here to clear up some of my confusion, while also reassuring me that my confusion is definitely not unwarranted. I just wish a few more specific roses I was looking up were discussed.

I definitely didn’t need this book but the pictures are beautiful. I think all the roses pictured are David Austin ones but as a lover of them, I didn’t mind.
