As The Sparrow Flies is a debut novel by Jade Gonzalez. This contemporary romance is full of second chances and reclaiming lost love. It’s clean, unpredictable, and exciting.

Amy is an aspiring writer looking for someone to publish a book inspired by her own life and lost love. Before she can submit her manuscript she needs permission to use the name of her ex boyfriend and high school sweetheart, Taylor Kingston, who happens to be a well known and very popular movie star. As soon as Taylor and Amy reconnect, their old spark comes alive and Taylor immediately starts trying to win back Amy’s affection. However, Amy is still hung up on the loss of her first love and is determined to find him while Taylor is engaged is to a famous Italian model.
With so many obstacles in their way and important careers and dreams demanding their attention, can Amy and Taylor make the sacrifices necessary to finally be together?

I really enjoyed this unique story! The celebrity trope is new to me and it was fun to try something new. I loved seeing Amy and Taylor grow together and change from putting their own dreams first to making sacrifices to help the other person’s dreams come true.

I also enjoyed the flashback style story line. Being able to see bits of Amy’s past throughout the story helped me get to know her on a deeper level and better understand why her dreams are so important to her.

As a debut novel the prose could have used a bit extra polishing to clean up some of the word choice and sentence structures, but the story was so intriguing that it helped me overlook the grammatical imperfections.

Overall As The Sparrow Flies was a unique celebrity second chance at love story with fun twists and lots of character development. If you enjoy clean contemporary romance, lovable characters, and celebrity tropes you should check out Jade Gonzalez’s debut novel!

Story Notes

This is a non-stop story from beginning to end. There is much depth and character arc going on in these pages and I loved how everything worked to keep the flow of the story strong. Each chapter revealed just a little bit more of the past while walking hand-in-hand with the present. Amy (Sparrow) was a lovely character who was break free of the past and move into her future. She had some demons she needed to face but she couldn't face them alone. Taylor was a bit crazy and out there but I did like how supportive he was of her finding the answers she needed to move forward. I do wish the entire story had been longer or split up into more books. There was so much to unpack here that I felt lost a few times while reading because everything went so fast. Don't get me wrong, the writing is very good and the story very engaging but that only served to make me want more from it. I didn't want it to end because I didn't really have all the answers I needed to let it go. I hope there will be more to this story, as in she makes it into a series. Because there were so many questions about Jack's history that were left unanswered, in my opinion. I would definitely read it as I'd love to see more of these characters.

I received this temporary complimentary ARC from Jade Gonzales. I am not required by anyone to write a positive review but am pleased to do so. I will receive no fiscal compensation for this review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.

A delightful read.

I’ve been reading this book in between working and schooling my kids and always cannot wait to get back to it! I was so torn between Amy’s two childhood friends. Who should she end up with? That was my constant dilemma and the writer drew it out just long enough and showed the very real battle Amy had as the book went on. I cannot wait for a other book by this author.

I’m not gonna lie, the book was a little cheesy and a bit hard to get into for me but WOW, I didn’t expect that I’d like it so much. The author was kind enough to gift me her book and I’m so grateful that she did. I will be carrying around “sparrows” story for the rest of my life.
This book showed me how you can find closure for your past but still let it be part of your present. And that even when something ends, all you need is a spark to ignite that fire again. Such a beautiful story.
