Some call me cocky. Others arrogant. I prefer to go by Mr. Fix it.
I’ve been around the block enough to know that happily ever after is as fictional as fairy tales. I choose to live in the real world where love equals heartache and the word monogamy doesn’t pass my lips unless it’s a punch line in a joke.
My life consists of a revolving door of women that come through one, two, sometimes three at a time. I’m perfectly happy with meaningless sexual encounters, as long as we both have fun and emotions are nonexistent.
Until I meet Sophia. Sitting at a bar with her friends, I pick up on her sad, forced smiles. The moment our eyes meet I know she needs a visit from Mr. Fix it. I can distract her from whatever’s troubling her. As I get to know the smart, sexy blonde I find a flaw in my plan.
What I expected from #HateToLoseYou by #LilyRyan was a romance with a dose of #smut . What I received in the end was way more serious than I expected and not in a bad way.
Now, starting this book I was confused and I mean *very* confused, because somehow the events in the beginning of the book didn’t want to align with what the synopsis said, but let me reassure you they WILL make sense. The present is a whirlwind of emotions and the story is pieced together bit by bit through flashbacks and memories of the past. It is not the usual meet cute with drama happening and the two main characters realising they love each other and while these things do play an important part, they are in the past.
The book is told exclusively from the guy’s perspective, which is also not something the books I read usually have. And… let’s be honest Tyler acts like the biggest idiot on the planet and I wanted to punch him in the face more than once. His reactions and the things he said made me wince, because he might be the worst guy I’ve read about to date. I was convinced he wouldn’t be able to do a single thing to make me like him, but just like the beginning of the book slowly made sense and like the memories started to make sense, so did his behaviour. In the end I was so invested in the book, invested in him and his story. I *needed* to know what had happened with him and I needed to know whether or not he would get another chance. And seeing him open up and the emotion cursing through him when he saw a special someone in the end definitely made it worth the while.
The book for sure was much more serious than I signed up for, but it was also VERY unique. It was fast paced, didn’t get boring and definitely had a very interesting set up that I haven’t seen this way in a book before. I liked it and Tyler positively surprised me in the end. I would recommend it.🥰
This book was way far more intense than the last two. It was truly heartbreaking, yet a sweet read. In this third book we get Tyler’s backstory. We met Tyler on the first two books. But now we get a new perspective and an insight to his troubled past. A past that continually haunts him. It explains his logic behind why he finds ways to escape that is until he meets Sophia. He becomes conflicted with what he wants, and what he thinks he needs. It is so hard for him to just be and instead he can’t stop comparing his past relationship to his new one. The pain that Tyler was constantly in was so palpable and painful to read especially because of the pain that he inadvertently places on Sophia. Sophia was patient and kind so for her to keep giving Tyler chance after chance spoke volumes of how big her heart is . Can she be strong enough or once she is pushed too far is there any coming back from that? Will these two learn to move forward or is there too much pain to get past? I can’t wait to read whats next. Will Sophia be able to give Tyler that peace he so desperately needs. Will Tyler be able to see pass his own issues to see what his future could be like and what he already has? I love how the author explains that hese two go through so much together and apart. This book was an emotional rollercoaster for me one that I didn’t want to end. I was extremely happy with how it played out. I cannot be happier.
This was a totally different delivery system than I am accustomed to It was told from Tyler's perspective in the form of memories that occurred during a 24hr period of extreme duress - that is all I am telling you I really don't want to spoil this
I will admit it took me a bit to warm up to Tyler. He took the idea of a man whirl (censorship) to a whole new extreme as well as my idea of a spoilt silver-spoon toddler throwing a tantrum. I am not sure I would have forgiven him as easily as Sophia There is a lot of emotional moments as well as some funny ones as we transverse the events, the choices that led to this moment. Tyler was toxic to himself and those around him - There are some people in his life that assisted in his behavior and how he saw himself His mom, his sister - not all bad It was interesting to watch Tyler grow up (for lack of a better descriptor)
This is my first book in this series. I was left very curious about his sister and best friend - I have added their book to my TBR list
Hate to Lose You (Baker’s Bunch, book 3) Written by: Lily Ryan
This book, wow, it was not what I expected but it gave me everything and more.
I couldn’t put it down. As the story begins to unfold you have a preconceived picture of Tyler, who he is and frankly I didn’t think his character was nice at all. However, as the story weaved and that is what it did, weaved the past and the present together you realize that Tyler hasn’t been his best self for a very long time.
Through memories and confessions we learn about Tyler, his life after a family divorce and a toxic relationship lead him to a road of self-destruction.
What we learn about Sophia is again through his memories and confessions and I will admit to cheering her on when she was rebuffing all his advances.
It was when he and his father are driving home to get him back to Sophia I realized I had a pile of tissues beside me, because I had moved from the I’m not sure I like Tyler camp to the I’m all for Tyler camp.
Author Lily Ryan has given readers a different kind of book, told mainly from Tyler’s POV. It was refreshing and captivating and it will take awhile before I stop thinking about Hate to Lose You.
Hate to Lose You is told in past and present, flitting between both. Sophia is the object of Tyler's desires, but she's wary of his charm, and keeps turning him down. Caitlin was Tyler's ex, whom led him down the wrong path and made him turn into the person he is. Tyler pursues Sophia at every opportunity and eventually gets a date, but he doesn't reckon on how much he wants her, until it's too late or is it! A great read and I loved how this book was told, it has everything you need in a book, love jealousy angst and a hea. Loved it.
Tyler Stone is one messed up man. He's been through rehab, therapy, and still mixes up his feelings for the ex and current girlfriend. I like how the past narrative is seen through flashbacks, while he travels to get to Sophia. This is an emotionally charged story, hard to put down.
Tyler is your typical love them one day, gone the next. And you can’t really blame him as he witnesses a messy divorce, and his ex really messed with his head. So his attitude isn’t stellar, in fact he’s downright arrogant!! Can anyone get through to this a$$hole!
Sophia has this really calming effect on family and friends, and I don’t think she was ever ready for the force that was Tyler. The constant chasing wore her down, and she let him in…..
Meeting Sophia puts him in a total spin, thinking he can help her out he doesn’t realise until later how much she helps him. But in true romance style, our hero finds out too late!! Can he salvage the best thing he’s ever had?
Easily read in a day, this book has me going through a whole gamut of emotions. If I wasn’t laughing, then I had emotional lumps forming in my throat. I’ve not read the previous books, and I don’t think you miss anything. But at some point I’m going back to read books one and two. It’s nicely written, going back and forth from the past to the present without getting me confused. Tyler’s past and conquests catch up with him, and it’s all too much for Sophia! He uses people for his own ends! And watching him destroy his relationship with Sophia had me wanting to climb into my kindle to slap him!!
Highly recommended this book if you want a second chance romance and a hero who needs a shake and a slap!!
Tyler is the boy every girl wants to be with and is happy with his life that way. His past haunts him and his nightmares are worse but he pushes it down and burys it…. But for how long? Until the day he sees Sophia and everything changes.
Sophia is smart and sassy and ignores Tyler’s advances until she can’t anymore. She wants him but knows there’s something that has damaged him but he won’t open up to her.
Their relationship is all consuming, passionate, volatile and at times so damaging. It’s a cycle that they spin in. Until it all crashes… This really showed how much Tyler endured and tried to forget or ignore but when it all came to the surface and losing Sophia was on the line he had to make some serious decisions with what path he wanted to travel. Loved this read and so glad Tyler chose the right path, he deserves his HEA!
This book was such a intense, heartbreaking, lovable read. In this book we get Tyler, he’s troubled by a past that continually haunts him, so he finds ways to escape until he meets Sophia. Tyler’s past is something he can’t seem to shake and when things with Sophia start to get serious, he wants his freedom yet at the same time he doesn’t. He becomes conflicted with what he wants, what he thinks he needs, and can’t stop comparing his past relationship to his new one. I hate the pain that Tyler was constantly in because of his past and I hated the pain that he inadvertently placed on Sophia because of it also. Sophia was patient and kind so for her to keep giving Tyler chance after chance spoke volumes of how big her heart was, but once pushed too far is there any coming back from that? Can these two learn to move forward or is there too much pain to get pass? Will Sophia be able to give Tyler that peace he so desperately needs, and will Tyler be able to see pass his own issues to see what his future could be like? These two go through so much together and apart but ultimately it comes down to moving forward and learning how to let go. This book was an emotional rollercoaster ride that I didn’t want it to stop but was very happy with how it played out.
This is the first book I've read by the author and it will not be my last. I need to read the previous two books of the series to start. It was so not what I expected. I couldn’t put Sophia and Tyler's story down. These two gave me all the feels! It was just so intense. I absolutely loved how their story goes. It was a roller coaster of emotions. They go through so much together and Tyler has his own issues too. I didn’t want it to stop reading and just want to know how these two will end up throughout. And I loved it!
This book… THIS BOOK!!! How do I put this book into words?! I am simply going to leave it at this, it was an interesting read and, in this case, interesting is good. It weaves the past and the present of Tyler Stone together through his flashback memories and confessions. It was an emotionally charged story that I couldn’t put down. It had everything you need in a book; love, jealousy, and a HEA.
