Before he rode a black stallion, young Yakima Henry was a scout for the Arizona cavalry outpost Fort Hell, so named for its unforgiving desert locale and the many fearsome dangers that were all but routine.
When Chiricahua Apaches attack a stagecoach bound for Fort Hell, Yakima Henry and fellow scout Seth Barksdale rush to defend it – only to discover that one of the fallen Apache is a blond-haired, blue-eyed white boy. This is shocking news to the fort’s commanding officer, Colonel Ephraim Alexander. Years ago, his family was kidnapped during an Apache attack, and his desperate search was cut short by orders to evacuate. If this white Apache warrior is his son, can his wife and daughter still be alive?

This story is all about the past and what it brought to the future of Yakima Henry. His time as scout with his friend Seth, in southern Arizona at what was Fort Hildebrandt, or Fort Hell, as it was called; and, the years when he was young and fighting outlaws after the Civil War, plus wild Apache's who still roamed the area. This book is interesting history of events not only of the Fort but of the native lands and those that lived there. I personally enjoyed Luz Ortega. Hubby and I have enjoyed this series.
What a surprise ending to this adventure!! Child found, then lost again to a very protective friend who didn’t want the kidnapped daughter who had turned rogue and not forgiven a Dad who not by choice but serving his duty as an American and soldier to serve under orders to lead in battle between the states too instill freedom and justice for all human beings! Tho I understand why and who was protecting friend and superior as to he had decided what he was obligated to do!!
Several individuals lose children to divorce, kidnapping, or lost love converge in the desert southwest battles to the death. A few survive. Former CSA troops whoop up the USArmy v redskin battles until it is difficult to tell who is on whom’s side. Our hero, Yakima, survives but loses the girl-again!?
Really enjoyed this book! Without giving too much away, Yakima is just starting out, he doesn't have a reputation. Like all of Peter Brandvold other books this is fast passed and hard to put down!
I liked this because Yakima is a brave crazy guy who always impresses the reader. It keeps my interest from start to finish. After finding his long lost Son the Colonel got an even bigger surprise.
Grandchild punched out another Good Yakima Henry book. It's full of excitement and action as usual but with a little twist of the locations and characters!
