There's more than one way to get the job done, right? However, many children often want to do things exactly like their friends, but sometimes that is not possible, especially for children with a physical disability. But who said one way is the only way?! In this fun rhyming, yet inspirational, story, Daphne Daniels discovers that having Brachial Plexus Palsy (Erb's Palsy) limits her in a way that makes her different from her classmates. Though she is initially discouraged, her confidence blossoms in a particular silly relay race when she is reminded that she is just as capable as anyone else, even if she has to do it differently ! This beautifully illustrated book, highlighting the beauty of diversity and acceptance, is perfect for children who need to be reminded that they are enough and that they should never give up! Great gift for teachers, physical therapists, and parents of children with diverse abilities!
My 6 year old had a stroke in utero resulting in Cerebral Palsy (Right Hemiplegia which is right side weakness and partial paralysis). Recently, we've read a lot of children books depicting different disabilities, Cerebral Palsy, Hemiplegia, etc. and this one really resonated with him. I could tell because he was captivated. I could see that he's experienced similar things, similar feelings as the character in the story, and that a lightbulb went off when we were reading it... that he's not alone, that there are other kids like him. I could see that the ending gave him confidence-- he does what the girl in the story does too, figure out how to do things differently, that he's been doing that his whole life and it's a superpower. Thank you for a wonderful book.
