When free-spirited Lorena Beltran is called in to work at a ranch for the weekend, it's simply a job before moving on somewhere else.
Until she discovers a grandmother's cunning (and highly entertaining) scheme to bring love to her grandson's life. A mail-ordered collection of smart and accomplished women from all over the world.
Lorena can't wait to see what sparks will fly! Except... the more she crosses paths with the grumpy ranch owner, the more she finds herself drawn to him, even as she resists opening herself up to the inevitable, unexpected heartache.
Can their stubborn personalities admit the feelings growing between them enough to overcome the obstacles? Or will they opt-out instead?
(Note: This book does not close the door and can be read as stand-alone)
This reads like a rom-com, it never gets too heavy, there is a great cast of characters, and it moves right along. I read it between two longer reads and it was a nice little break. It’s the type of book that would go well with a hard seltzer. Oh, and it bangs. For me it was a good romance.
So I don't know why I read this book, I am not a fan of the mail order bride trope and the cover is meh but I somehow went for it anyway ha.
I really liked it! The mail order part has nothing really to do with our MC's, just something the love interests grandma schemes up. Anyway... I thought Lorena (the MC) was great, I really related to her and liked how she reacted to shitty things that happened to her. Colm (the LI) was a serious, grump who was so obviously into Lorena but couldn't express it. I enjoyed their dynamic, and just overall thought this story was cute and the sex scenes were STEAAAMY.
Verna Lee is the grandmother and matriarch of a ranch in rural East Tennessee. She’s worried about her grandson ever settling down, so she recruits ladies from the World of Love Quest agency to stop at her Clark Ranch in hopes of securing a match for him. He works hard, but has no one special to care about him. Verna has temporarily hired Lorena Beltran to help with cooking, meal set-up, service, and cleanup, following the loss of one of their workers. Unfortunately, she was hired sight unseen using the nickname ‘Lonnie,’ so Verna assumed she was a man, and has her rooming next to her grandson, Colm. As such, they get to know each other, and Lorena tells him the scoop about his grandmother’s plans, when he puts her on the spot and she doesn’t want to lie to him. He’s not thrilled about the setup! He does his ‘duty’ but it seems that the person who interests him the most is Lorena. They become friends and eventually more, but have to navigate a few challenges along the way, and figure out what they really want.
There is a lot of wisdom and beauty in places in this story. At one point, Lorena is telling Colm about her relationship with her mother. Her mother’s response is beautiful and wise in this excerpt:
“One time, I replied, “Ma! Why can’t you be like our friend’s moms? Like normal.” She looked at me strangely, ‘Lorena, that’s not how we work. I am your mother, I am not your friend nor am I your friend’s mother. My role is to prepare you for the world. The world is not kind. You make your own happiness and the way you do that is figuring out what matters. Sometimes it’s easy and sometimes you have to bust your ass to keep from spiraling. This is me helping you[…]”
It’s easy to enjoy a story when it is filled with growth and wisdom like that! This is an enjoyable read with some angst, but not too much. The pace is steady and the tension is moderate. The story flows well.
Lorena Beltran is called in to work at a ranch for the weekend and discovers that the matriarch is arranging a set of girls for his handsome grandson to choose from unbeknownst to him. She couldn't wait to see who he will pick among the girls. But on meeting him, she was attracted to him (and it was mutual) and tried to deny the attraction and assist the grandma to help him to pick one of the girls. Will it work out or will they finally own up to the truth and have their head?
This is a nice read. "I received this book from eBook discovery. This is my honest review".
I had the amazing opportunity to read this story before it was published. I absolutely loved it! Yvette is an amazing writer. I loved the Bachelor plot and the characters were amazing. I loved the country setting, and the romance between Lorena and Colm was very sweet. If you’re looking for a nice, cute romance short story, I highly recommend this book!
I wasn’t sure if I was gonna give this three or four stars because it’s very much a Tell book and there wasn’t a whole lot of depth into Lorena’s immediate feelings even though she was the narrator, but it was just so much fun! I can’t wait to read more from this author because she just creates fun atmospheres and people.
