Sergeant Reckless (Animals to the Rescue #2) by Emma Carlson Berne is a great youth historical fiction inspired by true events that is the second book in the Animals to the Rescue series.
This was such a cute, informative, and entertaining novel. I chose to read this chapter book before allowing my 7 year old son read it.
Reckless was a real hero, a real horse that was incorporated into the Marines during the Korean War, and it was fascinating and so inspiring to read his story of accomplishment, talent, and heroism.
I know my son will love this. Highly recommend.
Thank you EW and Scholastic Press for this wonderful arc and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.
I am posting this review to my GR and Bookbub accounts immediately and will post it to my Amazon, Instagram, and B&N accounts upon publication on 10/18/22.
I’ve read this series’s Balto book and enjoyed the readability and format of the “animal biographies”. I’ve also read the picture book about Sergeant Reckless and knew I’d enjoy this longer version of his life. Engaging illustrations, easy to read text, bibliography, and time line. Wonder if there is any recognition in Korea for this brave little horse?
